Job Summary

The Caltech Controller's Office seeks a motivated, detail-oriented financial analyst.Ideal candidate will possess advanced reporting and analysis skills with a strong understanding of cash and accrual accounting. Additionally, this role requires the ability to collaborate across departments, manage multiple priorities, and proactively recommend improvements in financial reporting and analysis.

Essential Job Duties

  • Oversee audit coordination with PricewaterhouseCoopers and internal departments during interim and at year end. This includes coordinating the list of schedules provided during the audit, following up on overdue audit deliverables, maintaining confirmation control log, posting/reversing close journals, etc. as well as preparing select yearend audit schedules.
  • Develop, publish and monitor key dates and deliverables for ongoing reporting and audit objectives.
  • Provide various financial information for surveys and other external reporting, including IPEDS, WSCUC Annual Report, and Times Higher Education.
  • Review, research and resolve out-of-balance transfer transactions and sponsored research activity in preparation for quarterly reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze quarterly cash basis financial workbook and support schedules for cash basis reconciliation. Independently research exception items and large fluctuations in balances with applicable departments; present findings and suggest corrections.
  • Prepare and assist in the compilation of the audited financial statements.
  • Prepare and analyze quarterly GAAP financial statement workbooks including analytics, reconciliation of assets and liabilities to financial statements, reconciliation of total expenses and revenues to financial statements, net asset roll, and balance sheet review files.
  • Annually, prepare and analyze expense allocations for financial statements.
  • Conduct regular reviews of accounting conventions.
  • Prepare and assist with schedules for the 990 and reconcile to the GAAP financial statements.
  • Update policies and procedures, as needed.
  • Independently prepare ad hoc reporting and analysis
  • Other duties or projects, as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • 3-5 years' experience in accounting and data analysis.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of cash and accrual accounting.
  • Understanding of cost allocation methods.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Strong analytical skills and detail oriented; works with a high level of accuracy.
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong work ethic, and positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle.
  • Previous experience in higher education.
  • Financial reporting experience.

Hiring Range

$99,200 - $110,400 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
