The Opportunity

  • Senior Accountant at a Growth-Oriented Energy Company
  • Play an important role in the accounting and reporting of several key business processes, including environmental credit obligations and credit inventory
  • Enjoy wide exposure to the SEC reporting, inventory and margin, commercial, fuel compliance, risk, and other teams, as well as to our multi-state operations in Texas, Wyoming, Washington, Montana, and Hawaii

  • Reporting to the Environmental and Risk Accounting Manager, you'll be part of a supportive and collaborative team that is responsible for several highly visible and technical areas, including environmental credit obligations (RINs) and legal entity reporting. We also serve as technical resources to others within the department.

Key activities include:

  • Prepare and post journal entries during each month-end close and create summaries and reports for several business processes including environmental credit obligations, credit inventory, and others
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations for related accounts
  • Prepare quarterly statutory reporting financial statements and other required legal entity reporting
  • Prepare reports to support external financial reporting and SEC filings, quarterly review, and year-end audit processes with outside audit firm(s)
  • Serve as point of contact for general inquiries on technical matters, such as lease accounting and related financial statement disclosures
  • Work with the team on technical accounting research and other special projects, as necessary
  • Ensure adherence to and effectiveness of internal control in own area of responsibility
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses, assist with special projects, and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

To meet the basic qualifications for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant progressive accounting experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of industry experience with a public company strongly preferred
  • CPA obtained or parts passed is not required, but is a plus
  • Advanced analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, including complex/compound spreadsheets (SUMIFs, XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, nested formulas, and others)
  • SAP knowledge/experience preferred and oil & gas industry background a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated ability to manage critical deadlines and adapt in a dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to research, solve problems, and take initiative to recommend process improvements
  • Ability to work well independently and deal effectively in a rapidly changing environment

Our Refineries and Logistics Operations
