Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring research compliance and overall fiscal solvency for the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center's (ADRC) research program. The incumbent is responsible for the oversight, management, and administration of the ADRC's research program. As a member of the leadership team for the ADRC, the position is responsible for providing leadership and financial oversight for the following management and business administration functions: pre- and post-award contracts & grants management, institutional support and philanthropic funds management and Center-related academic and staff payroll planning and implementation.

This role involves providing analytical, financial and training activities in support of contract and grant proposal development, grant-writing, funding, administration, and budget development. Activities include pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors.

Involves activities associated with analyzing research funding trends and sources, forecasting, planning, and managing of research portfolios.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of equivalent experience, education and/or training.
  • 3 years in a previous leadership capacity is required.
  • 5 years of finance management is required.
  • Skills performing high-level analytical work, analyzing complex information, performing independent research, presenting complex data in a way that facilitates decision-making and making strategic recommendations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with pre and post-award administration, reporting, close-outs.
  • Experience preparing financial reports including developing financial projections and monitoring budgetary process; working knowledge of financial, budget and payroll systems, or similarly complex administrative systems.
  • Knowledge of fiscal management and analysis including fiscal planning for a multi-million-dollar budget incorporating campus-wide funding sources.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the compliance and sponsor policies related to research administration; skills to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate and interact with stakeholders.
  • Organizational skills to work with changing priorities and demanding workload, to manage and monitor multiple accounts simultaneously, and to meet multiple and variable priorities and deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze complex data and develop meaningful solutions to specific problems.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, cost allocation methods, and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Supervisory experience and leadership skills to effectively delegate tasks, set performance standards, evaluate performance, train, and motivate staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Business or other related field.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis contract and grant procedures, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administration.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with UC Davis Finance Management, UCPATH, Cognos Reports, Aggie Enterprise, effort reporting, cost-share tracking processes.
  • Leadership skills to implement new systems and processes that improve the overall effectiveness of the unit.
