In Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Mechanical Engineering, faculty members, researchers, and students are revolutionizingfocus areas in advanced manufacturing, bioengineering, computational engineering, energy and the environment, product design, and robotics. In addition, they are using their expertise ininterdisciplinary research centers across the university.

Carnegie Mellon University's department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Taylor Lab. This project requires expertise in DNA nanotechnology design and synthesis as well as cell culture, microfabrication and fluorescence microscopy. In this role, you will assist in the development and execution of research projects including experiment design, analysis of data collected and summarizing experiment results and such other tasks that are assigned to you.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
  • Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
  • Conduct research experiments within the predetermined research scope and methodology of department and university.
  • You will contribute to the department by providing support by focusing on thermal sciences and physics for advanced energy related applications, design and fabricate novel material architectures, integrate them into functional prototypes, and explore applications in thermal management, imaging, and sensing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • You will combine nanoscale energy transport, nanofabrication, and nanophotonics expertise with collaborative skills to innovate at the intersection of materials science and physics and such other tasks that are assigned to you.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree Required
  • Strong Problem-Solving and Reasoning, Organization, Planning, Analytical, Oral and Written Communication Skills
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
