Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Executive Director. The Executive Director of Enrollment Management & Recruitment leads and oversees strategic admissions, recruitment and outreach, marketing and communications, and related applicant services for all undergraduate-enrolling schools and colleges at Rutgers University-Newark. The
EDEMR/AC also oversees recruitment and outreach, marketing and communications, and customer services for graduate admissions at Rutgers University-Newark.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Developing an ambitious admissions strategy that engages a diverse, high achieving regional, national and international college-bound student audience from prospect through to deposit decision and supporting the concerns and needs of influential secondary audiences such as parents/family and counselors/educators in the college decision-making process.
- Working closely with Rutgers-Newark based graduate schools, the EDEMR/AC helps create a recruitment and marketing strategy to build a graduate applicant pool that meets the needs of the various graduate programs who maintain final admissions decision-making authority for graduate applicants.
- Spearheading and contributing to enrollment planning and forecasting, building and directing customized recruitment, marketing and admissions review strategies to meet prioritized short- and long-term university goals at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In collaboration with key institutional partners such as financial aid, registrar, institutional research, undergraduate and graduate schools, and relevant student services, the EDEMR/AC, actively seeks opportunities to leverage relationships and partnerships to meet enrollment needs and engages in regular assessment and enhancement of admissions tactics.
- Employing data, metrics, reporting and other utilities to make informed decisions related to setting admissions criteria, evaluating programmatic and campaign effectiveness, enrollment forecasting/modeling and other enrollment projection/planning requirements.
- This position is expected to instill and enact best practices within admissions and enrollment management, and be a visible, active presence to external audiences as dean of admission for the university. The EDEMR/AC is responsible for leadership oversight and management of the teams leading the Rutgers-Newark Visitors Center and Transfer Center. With the implementation of the two newest centers, the EDEMR/AC will be responsible for the vision and oversight of the programmatic components related to student transfer evaluations, all new student yield events, onboarding of new students and administration of merit scholarships.
- The EDEMR/AC closely partners with Enrollment Services offices (financial aid, registrar) and other constituents to design, contribute to, and implement short- and long-term strategic enrollment management (SEM) plans in line with the leadership's vision, including defining of goals, both overall enrollment goals and undergraduate/graduate specific goals, timelines, resources, benchmarks and performance indicators to measure progress and success.
- The EDEMR/AC leads a team of approximately 23 employees, 30 student ambassadors, with oversight of a budget of approximately $2.7M.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's degree with 8 - 10 years of experience in higher education, at least 5 of which must be in a supervisory position in admissions
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience
- Demonstrated success leading and developing teams, and collaboration with diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty
- Ability to manage complex initiatives with attention to detail
- Demonstrated commitment to institutional accountability and shared governance
- Demonstrated adaptability by adjusting to new situations, solving problems effectively, and creating an environment where others can do the same

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Experience at a large, public university
- Doctoral/advanced degree with at least 7 years of related experience with increasing responsibility in higher education
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex enterprise-wide projects and change initiatives
- Demonstrated success leading and developing teams, implementing innovative recruitment, marketing and/or admissions practices, and using analytics to make data informed decisions

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in admissions at a large, public university, serving enrollment goals for multiple colleges/schools.

Equipment Utilized |
- In collaboration with OIT, will develop unified forms and electronic systems to enhance the virtual and physical student services
- Must display knowledge of processing and technological applications related to student enrollment services that enhance successful program development and administration
- Working knowledge of the following student systems: Datatel, Banner, PeopleSoft, Federal & State Applications, Educational Tools, CRM, ERPs, Oracle Discover, etc.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- This position drives responsive strategic planning through the use of data and related efforts towards meeting individualized new student enrollment targets for each undergraduate school at Rutgers-Newark, as well as manages total incoming campus enrollment that aligns with institution-wide goals.
- This includes high order decision-making and discretion related to responsibilities such as individual student admission, setting of overall admission criteria through quantitative and qualitative processes backed by rigor of research and evidence, oversight and development of responsive student admissions programs for general and special populations, diplomacy in internal school, campus leadership and external relations, budget management, etc.
