Job Summary:

Fresh & Ready Foods is seeking a Transportation Manager. This position will have a strong emphasis on vehicle maintenance, diesel maintenance, with a preference for reefers, fleet management and expertise in identifying / addressing mechanical defects. You will be responsible for ensuring material movement is timely, cost-effective and in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and manages the work/schedules of subordinate staff to ensure the work is accomplished and product delivered in a manner consistent with organizational and customer requirements
  • Assists with managing transportation team with responsibility training, developing, coaching, counseling and corrective actions as necessary and within corporate guidelines; building a positive culture, and implementing solutions to challenges
  • Supervises transportation in accordance with established policies and procedures; monitors and evaluates performance and fosters delegation culture of work tasks
  • Manages all Preventive Management and repair programs
  • Trains drivers and distribution personnel and teach safe driving practices
  • Oversees all transportation needs for the company as determined by General and/or Operations Manager
  • Directs and maintains company owned or leased fleet including ongoing maintenance and fleet rotation plan
  • Develops distribution/operations plan including key strategies
  • Continually improves operational efficiencies
  • Manages transportation personnel to ensure achievement of goals including a target of 98%+ on-time delivery
  • Ensures compliance of DOT regulations
  • Designs, implements and schedules DOT mandated Hazmat training sessions and Safety training sessions
  • On an as needed basis, responds to and demonstrates leadership in emergencies and special events (e.g., hurricanes, tornadoes, work strike/stoppage)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Heavy Focus on Vehicle & Diesel Maintenance - preferred!
  • Reefer Truck experience - preferred!
  • DOT and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) experience
  • The ability to communicate effectively in written format and oral presentations
  • The ability to multi-task and establish priorities
  • The ability to maintain organization in a changing environment
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership
  • The ability to use experience of a working environment to meet established goals and objectives
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to maintain the highest of standards and implements Bateman company policies
  • Previous experience working in a contract dining environment and production kitchen
  • Strong Management skills
  • Passionate about food and innovation
  • ServSafe certification preferred
