Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

The Director of the Advance Practice Practitioners (APPs) Program at UC Irvine Health will be responsible for all facets of the continuous delivery of care provided by Nurse Practitioners, (NPs), Physician Assistants (PAs) and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). Will drive the success of the program and leverage the APPs role within this complex academic healthcare setting. The director will be responsible for the program advocacy, outreach, regulatory compliance, (including the credentialing processes), business case development, as well as evaluation and monitoring of APP utilization to ensure adherence to the practice model and improve revenue generation. The director will ensure strong physician collaboration and communication; supporting autonomy and accountability; providing staff opportunities for in-service education, formal education, and support residency opportunities. Will also provide physician education regarding the APP roles, advocating for expanded scope of practice, and advancing team integration.

The APP Director will be a practicing clinician and administrator (20% and 80% respectively). Will serve as a single point of contact, liaison, and expert for matters specific to the NP, PA, and CRNAs throughout the enterprise.

The APP Director will have a dual reporting relationship to the Chief Nursing Officer and the Vice Dean of Clinical Affairs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong clinical skills
  • State of California licensure as a NP, CRNA, or PA State of California licensure as a NP, CRNA, or PA
  • RN required
  • Proven leadership and ability to impact change in a complex health care system
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Excellent working knowledge of the APRN/PA/CRNA scope of practice
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and provide effective leadership with a positive focus that will enhance the nursing services of the Division, providing optimal patient-oriented health care in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Ability to help develop sound business and financial plans as it relates to the utilization of the APRN/PA role
  • Ability to build and sustain business relationships. Proven ability to collaborate across health care settings
  • 5+ years' management in a healthcare delivery system

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialty certification
  • Prior experience building/ managing care model teams with utilization of the APRN/PA role
  • Experience working with and/or overseeing APRN/PA roles
  • Experience working in a UC and/or union environment
  • Experience in Academic Health setting
  • BSN preferred
  • 5 years leadership experience working directly in a healthcare environment in an APRN/PA role

Licenses and Certifications:

  • RN
