Postdoctoral Associate: Corticospinal Circuits for Skilled Movement

The Nelson Lab at NYU's Center for Neural Science is hiring a Postdoctoral Associate to help discover how connections between the brain and spinal cord enable skilled behavior. The lab has developed a novel behavioral task and experimental workflow that will test the roles of corticospinal neurons and their spinal neuron targets in sensory-guided and dexterous movement.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will include experimental design, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting and publishing findings. You will participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, departmental seminars, and other social events.

Requirements

A Ph.D. or comparable degree in neuroscience or a related field is required. You should have good communication skills and be well-organized, efficient, motivated, and independent. Successful candidates will demonstrate aptitude in some combination of multiphoton (2- or 3-photon) calcium imaging, skilled behavioral task design, synaptic electrophysiology, in situ hybridization, viral anatomical tracing, and data analysis. Some experience studying the spinal cord and motor control is preferred but not required.
