Overview
BigBear.ai is seeking an Internal Audit Director to serve in a key leadership role and drive the compliance function at the corporate and operational levels of BigBear.ai as well as support of financial operations in support of the business. The Company is currently Emerging Growth Company status which will transition to Large Accelerated Filer no later than January 1, 2026. This position will be pivotal in building out the processes to become 404(b) compliant. Prior to becoming a Large Accelerated Filer, this position will partner with accounting to build out compliant processes. Once we are required to be 404(b) compliant, the Company with the Internal Audit Director will develop a roadmap for this position and its future reporting hierarchy. This role can be performed fully remotely anywhere in the eastern time zone, with preference to the Washington DC Metro area. If the position is remote, there will be required travel as needed to headquarters in McLean, Virginia.
What you will do
Risk Management:
- Identify areas most susceptible to errors and partner with accounting to build out more controlled processes.
- Provide concise recommendations for improvement and assist with execution of the recommendations.
- Lead planning and execution of compliance audit programs and compliance risk assessments while partnering with our current outsourced internal auditors
- Lead and develop the Company's Enterprise Risk Management program; develop a risk framework for Management and Board review; partner with the Executive Leadership Team and their respective functions to deliver risk operating plans to mitigate the risks and impact.
- Work closely with the Company's external auditors, including coordinating the annual risk-based audit plan and SOX initiatives, with the objective of increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the audit function by maintaining or exceeding the current level of external auditor reliance.
- Own annual review and update of internal accounting policies.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with senior leadership, the audit committee and other departments to ensure alignment of audit activities with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor, providing expertise on internal controls, risk management and governance processes.
Accounting Systems:
- Partner with our Systems Administrator to provide recommendations to utilize the GL system to drive efficiencies.
What you need to have
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance; or related field;
- CPA and/or CIA certification
- Proven experience (10+ years) in accounting or internal audit, with a track record of success in leadership positions. Experience in a public company highly preferred.
- Proven ability to collaborate with business units and operating level employees to achieve desired results.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- A demonstrable track record in senior financial roles in government contracting or technology sector is ideal.
- Ability to design and implement new processes, drive consistency, and take action.
- Must have exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must work well under pressure with the ability to lead/delegate among competing priorities.
- Adapts and delivers results in new situations and when thrown a curve ball is resourceful, resilient, and persistent.
- Proactive and independently identifies and attacks key issues with speed and confidence and collaborates on solutions
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

- Experience with services revenue recognition and SaaS/subscription-based (recurring) revenue models.
