Trimmer Job Description Section 1: General Information Employer Information: Lewis Services Job Title: Trimmer Department: Operations Location: Field FLSA Status: Non-exempt PPE: Hardhat/helmet, safety glasses, high-visibility vest/apparel, hearing protection, leg protection, toe/foot protection laced work boots, gloves, whistle, fall protection Clothing: Work pants, short or long-sleeved work shirt, socks, toe/foot protection laced work boots, all appropriate for hot and cold climates Effective Date: 03/10/2025 Section 2: Job Overview Purpose of the Position: The purpose of the Trimmer position at Lewis Services is to advance the skills necessary for utility vegetation management and to support tree trimming and line clearing operations for utilities and various other customers. Job Qualifications and Requirements: (e.g., certifications, experience levels) * Twelve months' experience working on tree crews as a Trimmer Trainee * Basic knowledge of trees including identification, growth habits and correct arboriculture pruning techniques * Must successfully complete Trimmer Technical Knowledge and Skills Certification * Understanding of all policies and procedures that apply to the Trimmer position * Must have met all qualifications for Trimmer Trainee position * Must perform work at heights * Proficient and/or trainable in tree ascent and descent using ropes and safety saddle * Proficient and/or trainable in performing work from an aerial lift while aloft * Valid driver's license, CDL and medical certification as required for relevant vehicle operation * Obtain and maintain company-provided CPR and First Aid certifications * Obtain and maintain herbicide applicator certification and licensing as necessary Obey state, local and federal laws * Obey state, local and federal laws Essential Responsibilities: * Ground level tree pruning, felling, and vegetation removal for appropriate clearance around power lines and related equipment * Under direct supervision by Crew Leader or qualified line clearance tree trimmer, functions as a Line Clearance Tree Timmer to prune and remove branches and logs aloft while climbing or from an aerial lift * Job site preparation, maintenance and clean up * Vegetation and debris removal such as lifting logs, dragging brush, etc. * Load and unload trucks * Hike difficult terrain carrying tools and equipment * Apply herbicide in accordance with state and federal laws * Safeguard colleagues and public from hazards in and around the work area * Observe, communicate, spot and assist fellow employees while aloft or on the ground * Inspect, prepare and maintain tools and equipment * Maintain clean and orderly work vehicles * Set up traffic control work zones and direct traffic * Prepare and participate in job briefings * Drive and operate trucks and other equipment as assigned (must possess relevant certifications to operate specialized equipment) * Operate chainsaw and similar equipment * Operate and feed chippers * Use handlines to lower limbs and equipment * Fell and rig trees * Must be willing to frequently travel long distances which may include overnight stays * Perform and assist with other related work as assigned Section 3: Physical Demands Never 0%, Rarely 1-5% of the day, Occasionally 6-33% of the day, Frequently 34-66% of the day, Continuously 67-100% Activity Frequency (Never, Rarely, Occasionally, Frequently, Continuously) Lifting/Carrying Frequently Pushing/Pulling Frequently Sitting Rarely Driving Occasionally Operating Rarely Standing Continuously Walking Continuously Climbing (stairs/ladders) Occasionally Stooping/Kneeling Frequently Reaching Frequently Handling/Grasping Continuously Repetitive Movements Continuously Tree Ascending/Descending Frequently COMMENTS: Employees should expect variability in size, proportions, conditions and weights of supplies, equipment, and work conditions. * Ability to lift up to 50lbs to shoulder height or higher * Ability to push or pull up to 50lbs * Ability to walk or hike up to one mile on uneven terrain * Ability to endure extreme climate variances (e.g. severe cold to high heat and humidity) * Ability to hear, speak, see, and communicate effectively * Ability to operate two-handed tools and equipment * Ability to progress skill in tree ascent and descent * Ability to work and maneuver at considerable heights during adverse weather conditions Section 4: Environmental Conditions Never 0%, Rarely 1-5% of the day, Occasionally 6-33% of the day, Frequently 34-66% of the day, Continuously 67-100% Condition Frequency (Never, Rarely, Occasionally, Frequently, Continuously) Outdoor Work Continuously Noise Levels Occasionally Temperature Extremes Frequently Hazardous Materials Rarely Confined Spaces Never Air Quality Issues Rarely COMMENTS: Employees should expect variability based on regional weather patterns.
