Overview
As a member of our interdisciplinary team, contributes professional prehospital EMS knowledge and skills to patients and their families. Maintains excellent patient service skills, is able to work well under pressure, and make quick decisions about patient health. Provides Advanced Life Support level skills and maintains an advanced skill set. Mentors and supervises other EMS staff and provides direction and assistance during shift operations. Actively involved in decision making, and demonstrates the skills of leadership, planning, coordination, and communication. Completes the M1 (Supervisor) duties outlined by organization's "UPH Career Leveling Guide".
Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care/Interfacility Duties
- Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate prehospital/interfacility medical care.
- Adapts and adjusts the patient's care plan according to the patient's needs in the prehospital/interfacility setting.
- Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient's care.
- Carries out high quality patient care while following the scope of practice set out by the State of Iowa Health and Human Services, Bureau of EMS and this ambulance service.
Supervisor Duties
- Maintain schedules, workflows and assign tasks. Set day-to-day operational objectives for team.
- Ensures policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, customers and stakeholders.
- No budgetary responsibility.
- Direct oversight of department's front line ground ambulance staff.
- Assist in administering the department's CQI process.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g., Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent; Successful completion of EMS training from an approved training course; 2 years of paramedic experience; Current certification at EMT-PM level is required; Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English; Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser. Current certification in AHA's BLS, PALS, and ACLS. Valid Iowa driver's license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart. (see below).
- Must have a minimum of two years driving experience with no record of DUI, DWI, or similar alcohol or drug related offenses over the past five years.
- No record of reckless driving, careless driving, speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit, fleeing or eluding a police officer, chemical test refusal, leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation or suspension, or passing a stopped school bus in the last five years.
