Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Customs Director to lead our customs operations across multiple operating units. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing teams in both the US and Mexico, with a deep understanding of reconciliation and duty drawback processes. Familiarity with maquila operations and a focus on import to the US and export globally are essential. Experience with USMCA is required, and fluency in Spanish is preferred. An LCB (Licensed Customs Broker) certification is a plus but not mandatory.

Position location: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule based out of Deerfield, IL. Effective mid-2025, Fortune Brands will transition to a new world-class campus in Deerfield, bringing together associates from across our U.S. offices, brands, and functions.The campus will offer vibrant workspaces for collaboration, along with amenities for dining, onsite daycare, fitness and recreation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage customs operations across multiple operating units in the US and Mexico.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with all customs regulations and procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategies for efficient import and export processes.
  • Manage reconciliation and duty drawback processes to optimize cost savings.
  • Ensure compliance with USMCA regulations and other international trade agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to streamline customs operations.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to customs teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and analyze customs-related metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay updated on changes in customs regulations and ensure the organization adapts accordingly.
  • Coordinate with maquila operations to ensure seamless cross-border trade.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in customs operations, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing teams in both the US and Mexico.
  • In-depth knowledge of reconciliation and duty drawback processes.
  • Familiarity with maquila operations and global import/export processes.
  • Strong understanding of USMCA regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; Excel required; SAP and/or Oracle ERP systems.
  • Experience with GTM (Global Trade Management) and USMCA program implementation preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
  • LCB certification is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Additional Information

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $140,000 USD - $218,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
