JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Tax Office Assistant in the Office of Budget and Finance will have an amazing opportunity to gain invaluable experience in accounting, all areas of federal, state, and local taxation, data analysis and evaluation, communication, and time management by assisting the Office of Budget and Finance Tax Director. The successful candidate must be dependable, analytical, proactive, and team oriented to effectively execute assigned responsibilities. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to working with diverse populations.

Responsibilities may include the collection pertinent financial data for tax purposes, prepare, observe, and/or research in the following areas obtaining valuable tax experience:

  • Federal and State Tax Returns utilizing commercial tax software (Drake and K-1X)
    • Form 990 (multiple)
    • Form 990T (focus on alternative investment partnership K-1 analysis for UBIT and foreign reporting)
    • Form 1120C (multiple)
  • Tax Research and Monitoring utilizing commercial tax and labor regulation software, federal, state, and local taxing authority websites, and PSU Law library:
    • Multi-State Sales Tax Research
    • Multi-State Payroll Tax Compliance and Research
    • Multi-State County/Local Tax Compliance and Research
    • Multi-State Labor Regulations (in assistance with HR)
    • Federal and State unrelated business taxable income
    • Payments to Non-Resident Aliens and related VISA requirements
    • International GST and DST where applicable
  • Tax Office/Department Webpage:
    • Assist in compiling information for University tax office webpage
    • Write content for webpage
  • Other:
    • Correspond with University Departments
    • Special tax projects

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Must maintain strict confidentiality around all aspects of office information
  • A background in Accounting, Business or Finance is required; preference in tax course work
