The Sonoco internship program is designed to "test the waters" of working in a corporate setting within the manufacturing and packaging industries.

The Supply Management/Procurement intern will spend time working within one of (or across) our Procurement pillars of Category Management, Strategic Sourcing or in our Center of Excellence.Previous projects have included: sourcing commodities, deployment projects for systems internationally, analyzing spend data to identify cost solutions and supplier rationalization, etc.

Our internship program is designed to be a step towards joining the Emerging Leaders Program or other entry level positions upon graduation. Positions are primarily filled withrising seniorsin their academic programs.

All internships last approximately 12 weeks.Your start/end date can vary based on your final exam schedule and relocation needs.Internships are paid, and relocation assistance is provided (U-Haul cargo trailer). We also provide a housing and activity allowance, and Sonoco sponsored activities with other interns and new Emerging Leaders Associates.

Position Description:

* Involvement in mechanical/electrical projects and installations, working closely with plant millwrights, electricians, and mechanics.

* Participate in manufacturing process improvements and troubleshooting production equipment in a manufacturing environment.

* Involvement in computer integrated manufacturing and information systems projects including automation, robotics, and process/inventory control.

* Assist in identification of component specifications; identify vendors, and parts/systems procurement. Utilize AutoCAD and Solidworks to draft machine parts, assemblies, and layouts and update existing engineering drawings.

* Responsible for writing procedures, assembling charts, diagrams, and directions for technical tasks

* Support the maintenance department planning functions utilizing data analysis and CMMS

* Assist in design and programming of manufacturing control systems. Utilize mechanical engineering skills for general plant and manufacturing support.

* Assist in research and planning for capital projects. Serve as assistant project manager during capital projects.

* Assist Engineering Manager and other department employees with other duties as required

This position is located at our Horsham, Sonoco Metal Packaging Plant.

To become an Intern with Sonoco, there are a few key things you'll need to have/had:

  • Enrolled in a 4-year institution pursuing your Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Supply Chain, Operations Management or Industrial Engineering

  • Previous internship experience preferred

  • Proven leadership experience

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

Compensation:

The monthly base salary range for an Undergraduate Engineering/Technical degree is between $4000 and $4700.
