Job Purpose
The Asset Management Engineer will develop, manage, update and monitor implementation of short- and long-term asset management policies and strategies/initiatives for the company's Distribution and Sub-Transmission systems. This includes overhead infrastructure (Poles, crossarms, etc.) as well as underground infrastructure (Civil: duct banks / conduit systems, etc.). The Asset engineer will provide insight and recommendations for required modifications and additions to sub-transmission and distribution line facilities to enhance the resiliency of the system and to modernize the grid in a fashion to meet forecasted capacity requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- This position will support management of sub-transmission inspection and maintenance programs, and the development of maintenance strategies.
- Responsibilities include assessment, sanctioning, and initial management (prior to PM involvement) of projects related to sub-transmission.
- Coordination and management of scopes for Civil UG Infrastructure such as conduit and manholes for underground electric and pad-mounted equipment installations.
- This role involves analyzing and creating a modern design for the conduits, integrating both Transmission and Distribution systems into a single duct bank.
- The position is integral to the development of the five-year work plan and fifteen-year Strategic Asset Management Plan.
- This position will drive the development and implementation of effective asset management plans and strategies, delivering on the asset management objectives.
- This position will be integral in the documentation and development of asset inventory for each class of assets, asset condition, level of service and performance, risk signature, maintenance strategies, repair/replacement models, financial forecasts, tactical and work plans.
- Provides support to other areas of National Grid such as Electric Operations, Regional Control Center, Substation Engineering, Distribution Design, Smart Grid & New Energy Solutions.
- Represent the company in industry and regulatory working groups as appropriate. Assure the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school and 10 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Institute of Asset Management (IAM) Certificate preferred
- Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation.
- Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to work well across all company functions with staff from a diverse range of backgrounds and experience.
- Adapts approach and consider what is important to the audience and tailors' message accordingly.
- Actively builds and maintains a network of relationships, outside normal business contacts.
- Takes personal responsibility for correcting problems promptly and non-defensively; communicates engineering customer expectations to monitor delivery of engineering projects and satisfaction.
- Proactively makes changes to improve performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of processes; for example, challenge existing engineering procedures and highlight areas for improvement.

Salary: Upstate NY - $133,000 - $157,000 Downstate NY - $161,000 - $189,000 New England - $150,000 - $176,000 This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
