National Grid is hiring a Manager Capital Project Delivery Project Managementfor Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations

Job Purpose

Required by the Massachusetts legislature, Electric Sector Modernization Plans (ESMPs) are strategic roadmaps to modernize and upgrade the electric grid to enable an affordable, equitable clean energy transition, whilst ensuring the grid can handle increased demand from electrification and the deployment of renewable energy sources. The Manager of Project Management will lead a team of project managers to oversee and drive the timely completion of complex large-scale substation, transmission-line and distribution-line electric capital construction projects within a large ESMP portfolio, whilst interfacing with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure adherence to processes, highest standards of health, safety, environmental, security and quality.

Key Accountabilities
  • Drive the successful delivery and completion of the ESMP portfolio.
  • Responsible for overseeing the team's overall project performance including monitoring their projects compliance with scope, schedule, budget, and safety metrics.
  • Manage Electrical Capital Project budgets for the ESMP and Transmission portfolios. Utilize knowledge of team's individual projects cost and schedule to assist in balancing ESMP budget objectives between all stakeholder portfolios at Project Control Meetings and during forecasting cycle.
  • Maintain internal and external project staffing to ensure full team representation of all complex projects within the ESMP portfolio.
  • Hiring, orientating, training, mentoring and developing of project management team.
  • Ensure team maintains reporting cadence for baseline variances, forecasts, schedules and other stakeholder information requests.
  • Ensure team maintains compliance with approved delegation of authority (DoA) limits.
  • Interface directly with key internal and external stakeholders and National Grid leadership to report progress, costs, schedule, and risks.
  • Leverage knowledge of project management processes, contract management processes, organizational structure, and other discipline processes.
  • Facilitate movement and resolution of interdisciplinary process issues.
  • Support team in solving challenging project issues, including escalating high-risk items through appropriate channels.
  • Conduct monthly one on one meetings, formal quarterly reviews and final end of year performance reviews with team.
  • Facilitate and encourage the introduction of new technologies and innovative solutions to improve the delivery of Electric capital projects safely, on time, and in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures.
Qualifications

  • 7+ years' experience in electric operations engineering, project management, utility construction or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A bachelor's degree required in an engineering discipline and/or significant relevant project management, engineering and construction experience in all aspects of utility construction operations. Master's degree in Engineering discipline, MBA or relevant equivalent preferred.
  • Strong grasp of project management concepts
  • Experience working in a matrix organizational structures and processes.
  • Preference given to candidates with a Professional Engineering license and/or Certified Project Management Professional.
  • Considerable proven experience in direct project and design including milestone management, resourcing, affordability, risk management, reporting and possess team leadership and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative, integrity and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.
  • Deep knowledge of electrical system operations, engineering, environmental, engineering economics, and familiarity with legal, purchasing, and utility accounting regulations.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints. Bottom-line oriented, budget conscious, metric/measurement driven.
  • Ability to create a high energy team climate whereby team members are able to discuss relevant issues freely and where there is a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy.

Salary - $169,000 - $199,000

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
