Vice President, Bond SBU (Hybrid)

Provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the Bond operation. Position is responsible for developing annual plan, as well as driving the growth and profitability goals of the operation. This position assures that proper organization design is established to support the strategy and that appropriate talent is deployed. The person works closely with our regions to collaboratively and independently establish key Bond agency relationships. This position sets underwriting practices and at times, handles key referrals. . This position works with Corporate area to set proper reinsurance partners. This position represents the company at key Surety industry associations and events. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

• Develops department goals and drives for the overall achievement of both short and long term financial and strategic objectives.
• Institutes strong agency management skills to drive new bond business development; travels to visit agents as well as agency functions; creates personal agency relationships; works with each region office to leverage Bond from agency plant.
• Manages the development of new or improved products and/or services. Identifies strategic market opportunities for growth.
• Provides highest level of underwriting approval for the bond operations and manages the underwriting of bonds by the Bond Underwriting AVP. Assures that proper underwriting controls are established and executed.
• Develops talent for the Bond organization including hiring new Bond employees.
• Attends industry associations and functions representing Selective.
• Works closely with Corporate reinsurance department to determine the proper reinsurance approach for the Bond portfolio.
• Directly manages the Bond Underwriting AVP and the deployed Regional Bond Managers; shares a matrix responsibility for the Bond claims manager.

Knowledge and Requirements

• Must have demonstrated ability to develop exceptional relationships with both internal and external customers. Requires strong analytical and financial acumen. Demonstrated ability to lead a team successfully

Education and Experience

• College degree preferred
• Minimum 10+ years of bond underwriting and field experience
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience
• AFSB, AU, CPCU preferred
