What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an Electromechanical Technologist to contribute to the execution of the surveillance mission that Sandia National Laboratories is responsible for. The job is learned through on-the-job training and there are technical work documents and some paperwork involved with testing of these stockpile units. The testers use a combination of Windows and Unix operating systems and consist of a variety of equipment such as VXI subsystems, spectrum analyzers and digitizers. The successful candidate will be required to work in a dynamic environment while upholding safe and secure operations with an emphasis on safety and quality. Some housekeeping is required by maintaining the working environment. Data is our ultimate product, and it is imperative that attention to detail be given.

On any given day, you may be called on to:



  • Perform electrical/mechanical testing on electrical systems, subsystems, and components.

  • Operate, modify, calibrate, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve the systems test equipment assigned.

  • Build testbed assemblies involving explosive operations.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Amarillo, TX. Some travel may be required for this position.



Salary Range:

$69,400 - $133,800

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:



  • High School Diploma, plus (3) three years of experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience in Electronics, Mechanical, Electromechanical Technology, or a relevant STEM field.

  • Experience operating test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, voltmeters, and power supplies.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.



Qualifications We Desire:



  • Associate's Degree in Electronics, Mechanical, Electromechanical Technology, or relevant STEM field, plus (2) two years of experience.

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills applied to the repair of industrial test equipment.

  • Knowledge/ability to understand instrumentation and data acquisition.

  • Experience performing instrumentation assembly (transducer and wiring installation).

  • Experience working with classified information or materials.

  • Ability to collect, organize, and document experimental results.

  • Willingness to take on a wide variety of assignments and learn new techniques and skills.

  • Experience with Office Software and the Unix operating system.

  • Ability to work with facility equipment and processes.

  • Demonstrated commitment to producing high-quality results and a focused attention to detail.

  • Experience with formal Conduct of Operations for large-scale testing.

  • Ability to work from engineering drawings, 3D models and written and verbal instructions.

  • Demonstrated ability to build mechanical assemblies.

  • Experience with high consequence safety and security operations.

  • Experience maintaining and housekeeping large-scale test facilities.

  • Active DOE Q-level security clearance.



About Our Team:

The Weapons Evaluation Test Laboratory (WETL) is a highly integrated team focused on executing the Integrated Stockpile Evaluation program by performing surveillance testing of weapons systems currently residing in the nation's active nuclear stockpile. The data collected from these activities is utilized by our customers to validate the functionality and increase the knowledge base of each of the individual weapon systems. This testing is conducted at the Pantex Plant located in Amarillo, Texas.
