Your Opportunity

The Senior IT Director, Applications & Technical Services is an innovative thought leader and trusted advisor within Smithfield Corporate and/or Hog Production. They direct all aspects of technology solutioning, projects, delivery and support for business within our Corporate/Hog Production areas.

This role will work with business leaders, vendors partners and across IT to ensure efforts are coordinated and executed as required. Effective partnership and teamwork with internal and external IT partners and all other IT service teams is a key success factor.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provides Technical leadership for solutioning/support of solutions related to various functional groups.

  • Works with IT leaders to ensure cross functional execution of strategy, projects and support efforts.

  • Serves as the escalation point for issues within assigned functional groups.

  • Delivers IT innovation to all of areas of Smithfield within assigned functional groups.

  • Has oversight of the development/configuration/coding and/or technical design of applications.

  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate risk management and control execution through the development lifecycle.

  • Communicates decisions, priorities and relevant project information to appropriate levels of staff regarding business unit requests, projects and initiatives.

  • Proactively identifies opportunities (to leverage technology) to create business values or reduce costs.

  • Drives technology and business process innovation within and across the global organization ensuring continuity.

  • Develops strategic initiatives and plans, proactive, anticipatory, and driving in nature and provides significant value-solution to the business.

  • Manages business relationships and projects across teams, vendors, and 3rd party providers.

  • Drives CI approach to instill proactive culture within the IT organization.

  • Manages strategic vendor partnerships and contracts in collaboration with Strategic Sourcing

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field and 12+ years of experience in IT; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development is required. Broad business applications experience, preferably in the Consumer Products, Food Manufacturing and /or Agribusiness, preferred.

  • In depth experience in SAP and/or JDEdwards.

  • Experience with different SDLC and technology change management models/practices.

  • People management and development experience.

  • Ability to work with vendors and corporate partners on delivery execution and providing cost effective solutions.

  • Extensive experience partnering with all levels of the organization.

  • Solid analytical skills, experience solving practical issues and engaging cross functional teams of multiple process partners to gain consensus.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with peers and executive leadership.

  • Strong leadership and management skills that align with the Smithfield culture. Specific skills include facilitating change, driving operational excellence, and striving for continuous improvement.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance to the IT Technical Applications teams.

  • Ensure ongoing employee development by providing growth objectives and a formalized employee development plan that aligns Smithfield's goals with the employee's goals.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
