Primary responsibilities will consist of developing log of test borings from field investigations, setting up lab testing programs. Developing cross sections for further analyses. Develop and create figures for inclusion into geotechnical reports. Use GIS in developing figures. Perform geotechnical analyses using available software regarding slope stability, foundation bearing capacity and settlement. Other specialized analyses, as needed. In the role of Geotechnical Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to: Gain real-world experience on exciting projects Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager Perform other duties as needed Preferred Qualifications Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry Completed third year of college in an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited engineering program with a minimum of one (1) completed year of Civil Engineering and one (1) year or 12 units of completed core engineering courses. Familiar with geotechnical software (GeoStudio, LPile, SHAKE, gINT, FLAC). Local candidates preferred. The internship program is designed to support young professionals as they explore their future career paths. We aim to grow interns to transition into full-time roles after graduation. The program is open only to students, and our internships are a year-round commitment while the student is in school, similar to a part-time job. We do not offer seasonal internships, and remote work is not allowed. All work is performed in an HDR office and supervised by a licensed professional engineer. Typically, interns work 16-20 hours per week, with the flexibility to reduce their hours during school commitments or increase their hours during breaks and summer vacation. The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
