Position Overview

This is a 75% time, temporary position expected to last 12 months.

Are you passionate about supporting a world-class public institution committed to research,
outreach, and education? University Survey and Assessment Services (USAS) is seeking a
dedicated professional to join our team and contribute to our mission and impact. This position offers an exciting opportunity to:

  • Consult and Collaborate: Work closely with faculty, administrators, researchers, and
    staff to identify priorities and deliverables for survey research, assessment, and
    evaluation projects in higher education, public health, and many other areas within the
    university and impacted positively by the university.
  • Innovate and Lead: Develop project proposals, recommend best practices in research
    design, and conduct data analysis using tools like Excel, SPSS, R, or Tableau.
  • Support and Enhance: Program and test complex surveys in Qualtrics, manage contact
    lists, and create comprehensive reports and presentations.
  • Engage and Assist: Provide technical support for the University's online self-service
    survey work, collaborate with the University Qualtrics Brand Administration team, and
    support various administrative tasks related to survey research and external student
    testing.

Responsibilities

Consulting, Analysis, and Project Management (55%):

  • Consults with faculty, administrators, staff, and students to identify priorities, timelines,
    and deliverables for survey research, assessment, or evaluation projects.
  • Assists other USAS staff with project management, survey programming, questionnaire
    design, client consultation, mail, online, telephone data collection, and other needs.
  • Develops service agreements and plans for projects including project objectives,
    ownership priorities, project scope, resource needs, work tasks, data privacy practices,
    and project timelines.
  • Recommends best practices in research design including optimization of existing data.
  • Procures resources for projects.
  • Identifies project goals and objectives in order to determine sampling plans, recruitment
    strategy, and data collection methods (online survey, paper-based survey, etc.).
  • Provides questionnaire design guidance and creates questionnaires.
  • Assists with and conducts data analysis in Excel, SPSS, R, or Tableau.

Survey Administration and Reporting (25%):

  • Programs and tests surveys in Qualtrics with advanced logic, embedded data, workflows,
    and other requirements.
  • Revises/creates email invitations, reminders, cover letters, questionnaires, and
    discussion guides.
  • Uploads and manages contact lists, sends email invitations and reminder emails.
  • Creates technical reports, executive summaries, presentations, and other reports for
    projects.

University Survey Support (15%):

  • Supports online self-service survey work on campus by using knowledge to assist in
    evaluating the University's survey tool functionality and vendor performance, and
    providing technical support to users.
  • Collaborates with the University Qualtrics Brand Administration team in regular
    meetings to manage University Qualtrics needs, provide feedback on web content and
    communications, and other tasks as needed.
  • Assists the USAS Qualtrics Brand Administrator in creating recommendations and user
    support plans for the online survey tool to ensure it meets the needs of University users
    and is used effectively.
  • Assists staff with project needs including survey programming, Qualtrics brand
    administrator assistance, and other needs as determined by the staff and the Director.

Project Implementation (5%):

  • As needed, provides implementation support to projects you manage or as a member of
    a larger project team.
  • Tasks may include interviewing respondents, reminder calls or emails, focus group
    recruitment, appointment scheduling, coding participant responses on surveys, and
    editing completed surveys prior to scanning.
  • Other tasks include data entry or logging, mailing, tracking participants in Lexis-Nexis
    and/or Whitepages Premium, or other tasks as assigned. Performs other administrative
    duties for all USAS units as assigned which could include back-up proctoring for online
    Iowa tests in October, March, April, May, and June.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications (please document on resume):

  • Bachelor's Degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to survey programming and survey
    administration.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Excel, SPSS, R, or other statistical software.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to working in a team environment.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness.
  • Willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications (please document on resume):

  • 4 years of project management, research, or survey-related experience or an equivalent combination.
  • Ability to work and resolve complex project management issues with minimal oversight.
  • Training in measurement, survey methods, and/or assessment.
  • Bachelor's degree in sociology, psychology, public health, higher education, or other
    degree that provides significant research methods training.
  • Previous CITI training in FERPA, HIPAA, etc.
  • Demonstrated Qualtrics knowledge/expertise.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $48,000 - $62000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service
