GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides leadership and supervision of daily operations for Employee Health Services functions, wellness, and all leave management programs. Ensures the delivery of quality, patient-centered care in a manner reflective of the Bryan Health's mission, vision, values and beliefs. Possesses managerial and clinical skills appropriate to the scope of responsibility. Manages the cost center's fiscal, material and human resources emphasizing staff retention strategies. Participates in department, division and organization-wide initiatives focusing on regulatory compliance and performance improvement. Provides nursing coverage in the employee health clinic as needed.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Develops and initiates service/program activities congruent with organizational goals.

3. *Develops, implements, and analyzes adherence to organizational, service-specific standards of care and policies and procedures.

4. *Provides leadership and supervision of Bryan's wellness program, addressing the components of health, mental and physical fitness of all employees utilizing preventive means that provide measurable results; markets and promotes health.

5. Provides nursing services within the Employee Health Clinic to include new hire processing and employee injuries as demand requires.

6. Leads organization wide efforts to reduce employee injuries and creates a safe work environment for all Bryan Health employees.

7. Partners with infection control to create appropriate vaccination programs for staff.

8. Oversees the workers compensation program for Bryan Health, with an emphasis on cost reduction.

9. *Empowers staff to actively participate in department and organizational committees/councils and to operationalize the hospital vision, beliefs and patient-centered principles; mentors staff in quality performance efforts and fosters a 'culture' based on continuous improvement.

10. *Reviews and amends the scope statement for the department on an annual basis.

11. *Incorporates age-specific and cultural considerations in the delivery of care; ensures an environment that is safe, clean, clutter-free and customer-focused.

12. *Engages in assigned hospital management, clinical and organizational meetings.

13. *Develops and manages a capital, operational and human resource budget based on strategic departmental priorities, best practices and organizational standards; analyzes and resolves variances.

14. *Hires and manages staff who demonstrate behaviors consistent with Bryan beliefs; acts as chief retention officer for the department.

15. *Ensures staff members receive an orientation and ongoing educational development based upon organization and department requirements and individualized employee needs/expectations.

16. *Recommends prioritized annual competency requirements based on the needs and scope of the department and identified job performance expectations.

17. *Conducts timely staff performance appraisals ensuring staff competence while emphasizing staff retention strategies through coaching and individual development.

18. *Ensures ongoing compliance with corporate, Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.

19. Promotes evidence-based practice; interprets physician, staff and other customer satisfaction results and strives for improvement; evaluates occurrences, patient, physician, and staff concerns and seeks resolution utilizing supportive organization procedures/methods.

20. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

21. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

22. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.

2. Knowledge of nursing, individual, and group behavior management, health care and nursing trends/research, change theory, applied nursing process, quality improvement principles, techniques, and budget/financial database management skills.

3. Knowledge of employee wellness program development, oversight and measurement.

4. Strong knowledge of FMLA, OSHA, ADA and all laws applicable to wellness programs in the workplace.

5. Knowledge of workers compensation practices, policies and laws for the state of Nebraska

6. Skill in supervising, mentoring, instructing and evaluating the work of nursing professionals and other departmental staff.

7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Strong presentation skills, both in large and small group settings.

8. Ability to promote change toward the achievement of a 'shared vision', challenge current paradigms and facilitate systems thinking.

9. Ability to balance and prioritize diverse management and clinical responsibilities.

10. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information.

11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with health care team members, community organizations and diverse patient populations.

12. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

13. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

14. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

15. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

16. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. Master's degree in an area such as Occupational Health, Public Health, or similar fields of study preferred. Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) preferred. Clinical experience in Employee Health or Occupational Health preferred. Employee wellness experience preferred. Minimum three (3) years of nursing leadership experience required.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

(DOT) - Characterized as sedentary work requiring exertion up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
