ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Director of Operations to join our Federal team. The position is remote with frequent travel to project locations, and Federal Headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Director of Operations, Federal, will develop and lead Business Unit processes in Project Delivery. This role is responsible for Business Unit strategy and initiatives in project management. The Director of Operations, Federal, is responsible for ensuring ESG's delivery teams adhere to a robust process, enabling ESG to meet key Customer deliverables, including safety, timeline, and budget.

The essential functions of the position include:



  • Establish and coordinate operational procedures and processes related to project management, risk management & reviews, customer satisfaction, and the financial responsibilities of the projects ensuring smooth communications and transitions between the customer, sales, and engineering
  • Manage and monitor FBU revenue projections at both a portfolio and project-by-project level. Support FBU leadership in managing EBITDA by achieving monthly, quarterly, and yearly revenue targets.
  • Assist ESG federal business unit management team with recruitment, interviews, hiring, and training of new project managers to ensure maximum operational effectiveness
  • Assist ESG federal business unit teams to develop a thorough knowledge of the energy industry, ensuring full discovery and understanding of primary business goals, operations, challenges, and requirements; assist with the development of project manager plans
  • Lead and/or participate in regularly scheduled deal management review meetings with ESG operations management teams
  • Support risk reviews and other communications with ESG executives and the board of directors.
  • Create an atmosphere that promotes moral, ethical, and legal business conduct and ensures ESG sales team is providing value-added solutions, meeting customer needs and contractual obligations
  • Coordinate with ESG's Safety Department to ensure that Project Managers have the proper safety training and resources to ensure that their projects meet all OSHA, state, and federal safety laws
  • Responsible for the project management team and will assist in developing and implementing training programs for the ESG project management teams to, including working with Engineers and Account Executives on technical aspects of the project, competitor pricing, strategic, operational selling, building technical customer relationships, working with contractors and vendors, budgeting, guarantees, savings and calculations and assisting with receivables, job issues, forecasting, and revenue
  • Training may include formal classroom-type programs, individual training and mentoring
  • Provide education and training for project management staff associated with revenue rules, project scheduling, EBITDA, and other financial indicators.
  • Must be able to perform risk management tasks to determine the technical, feasibility, and profitability of projects, manage several activities, develop priorities, work under stress, and have the ability to meet deadlines
  • Lead, motivate; manage personnel issues; interact and work with other departments within the company
  • opportunities to drive productivity and new business growth


Your background includes:



  • Ten (10) years of related experience in the energy services/performance contracting industry
  • Ten (10) years of direct operations/project management experience
  • Five (5) years of successful experience managing Project Managers
  • Solid understanding of federal government FARs, DFARs, and other rules and regulations
  • Experience must include direct management of project management employees; direct management in the energy services/performance contracting/construction industry is a plus; previous experience supporting ESPC project development teams and schedules is a plus.
  • CEM or PMP preferred
  • MBA preferred
