Summary:

The position will be responsible for supervising the activities within the lab area. The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for ensuring a steady production of high-quality laboratory data through defining associate expectations and actively monitoring operations. The person in this role will ensure that staff is focused on processing and testing of specimens with a minimum of test turnaround times. Specific areas of responsibility for the Laboratory Supervisor include: effective staffing, associate orientation, quality monitoring, quality reporting, quality improvements, proficiency testing, staff performance evaluation, mentoring associates, consistent application of hospital and departmental policies, meeting accreditation standards and education of laboratory science students. Lastly, the Laboratory Supervisor will assume responsibility for general lab supervision on some weekends and holidays and will work in the lab area on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities:


  • Uses good judgment when allocating labor to ensure efficient utilization of labor resources and keeps the department director informed when disciplinary action is imminent for section associates.
  • Ensures section associates correctly organize and differentiate high and low priority work and follow up on specimen collection, specimen transport, testing or results.
  • Minimizes accidents at work, ensures consistent use of appropriate personnel protective equipment, uses precautions to avoid exposure to body fluids, and ensures section associates attend safety training programs.
  • Ensures correct processing of control materials and use of external QC reporting to validate assays or instruments.
  • Ensures assignments are completed consistently in a timely manner and section associates demonstrate an ability to perform tasks within acceptable time limits.
  • Effectively monitors supply inventory.
  • Ensures section associates comply with HIPAA, patient safety and confidentiality, and patient rights.
  • Responsible for successful section accreditation.
  • Responsible for scheduling maintenance functions for low productive periods to minimize impact to processing, documents payment of services rendered, and budgets responsibly for both capital and operations.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, or related science or clinical discipline, or foreign equivalent;
  • ASCP certification or equivalent;
  • four years' experience as a Laboratory Supervisor, Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technologist, or related.
  • Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land or air between the following two job locations:
    • 2830 Calder Street, Beaumont, TX 77726 and
    • 1275 Marvin Hancock Dr., Jasper, TX 75981.
