Responsibilities



  • Responsible for implementing process improvements on the floor.
  • May be responsible for entire project from design through installation, or a portion of the project.
  • Also responsible for assisting in day-to-day machine and tooling problem resolution.


Specific Duties:



  • Promotes continuous improvement in environmental and safety issues by ensuring that equipment is designed, modified or repaired to maintain and improve safety and environmental performance. Reacts immediately to safety issues as they arise.
  • Follow all environmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and controls current processes and utilizes design and mechanical skills to help improve such processes.
  • Identifies, implements, and evaluates process improvements (within individual capability) at the unit level and communicates these changes to the department.
  • Participates in process improvement groups.
  • Identifies the technical training needs of the unit and assists in the development of training programs.
  • Writes AR's and EAR's as required.
  • Documents process improvements through print changes and procedure changes.
  • Trains all employees affected by process changes.
  • Provides necessary technical support for plant safety and resolution of safety deficiencies within the department.
  • Utilizes constraint management to maximize process output.
  • Ensures equipment availability and capability through administration of the Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Provides support as requested by Supervisor.



Education



  • An Associate's Degree in Engineering Science or Machine Design preferred.



Experience



  • Four years of experience in machine operation and set-up
  • Five years of experience in coating and surface finish (IROX Only)
  • CAD Design, AutoCADTM preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical design and build experience.
  • Proficiency in PM system administration.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Computer skills.

Accountability and Scope of Authority



  • All employees have the authority to perform their assigned job duties and to address the roles and responsibilities of their position.
  • Authorized to enforce the quality standards and systems for all products at the Blacksburg location.
  • Authorized to enforce Environmental Health & Safety Rules, Regulations, corporate EHS directives and EHS programs and systems at the Blacksburg facility.
  • Accountable for Adherence to the Zero Tolerance policy and practice of refusing to tolerate or allow behavior defined by Federal-Mogul as unacceptable in terms of safety (e.g. "unsafe behavior" meaning behavior that could lead to occupational injury or illness to a plant employee, contractor or visitor).
  • Accountable for complying with Environmental Health & Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • Must be able to understand what hazards are associated with his/her position and how to minimize them. All accidents/injuries no matter how slight must be reported to any member of management, and/or Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator as soon as possible.
  • Required to wear required personal protective equipment.


All employees will abide by the EH&S policy endorsed by the local management, comply with the legal and other requirements and operational controls established under its EHSMS, work toward achieving established objectives and targets, and conform to procedures consistent with the IATF 16949 standard. An employee should report, and if necessary stop, any activity that does not conform to the policy or may injure himself/herself.
