The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient centered PRN Medical Assistant II (MA II) to work at our UICC North Dodge Neurology Clinic.Our Neurology Clinic provides consultation services, evaluations, diagnosis, and treatments for adult patients with a broad spectrum of disorders affecting the nervous system. Our general neurologists are committed to providing specialized care with a generalist perspective, ensuring an innovative, effective, and personalized approach, and diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of neurological conditions. Patients with any neurologic problem, uncertain about their neurological condition, experiencing neurological symptoms, or needing a neurological evaluation may receive care in the general neurology outpatient clinic.
Schedule: Variable hours, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Standard clinic hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with a one-hour lunch. No weekends, on call time, or holidays required.
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of LIP (licensed independent practitioner), RN (registered nurse), NM/ANM (nurse manager/assistant nurse manager) or other licensed designee, functions as a member of the patient care team. Performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in the urgent care setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit.
Duties to include:
- Support our Neurology Clinic patients.
- Facilitate the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families, and staff.
- Assist in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments, including but not limited to patient history, medication records, allergies, and immunizations.
- Manage internal and external medical records to ensure that accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments.
- Administer routine medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment. These are medications that can only be administered by certified medical assistants or medical assistants who have completed a formal accredited training program.
- Identifies vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
- Performs related clerical tasks including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to other departments.
- Assists in obtaining insurance prior authorizations.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous Epic Experience
- Previous neurology clinic experience
- Strong communication skills
- Minimum one year experience as a Medical Assistant
