- Attends in-services or completes make-up assignments.
- Consistently follows Policies and Procedures to ensure positive patient outcomes.
- Responsible for performing lead duties which may include onboarding of new Medical Assistants, coaching and mentoring staff, and serving as a subject matter expert.
- Collects and handles laboratory specimens appropriately.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe clinic environment.
- Prepares patients for examinations and procedures and assists providers as needed.
- Responds to voicemails, routes messages, and returns phone calls in a timely manner.
- Records patient information in Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- May be responsible for administering medications, including injections.
- May be responsible for cleaning, processing, and sterilizing medical instruments.
- Performs waive testing and phlebotomy.
- Actively participates in teaching/training of Medical Assistants as assigned and acts as a resource to other healthcare personnel.
- May support provider productivity by monitoring performance of Medical Assistants.
- Ensures quality standards are consistently met.
- May collaborate with Charge Nurses and clinic operations leadership to develop action plans to improve performance metrics.
- Ensures Medical Assistants are performing within their scope of practice.
- Provides input towards new Medical Assistants 90-day competency assessment.
- Monitors staff performance to ensure regulatory standards are maintained, which include monitoring staff performance to ensure Vaccine Storage and Handling standards are always maintained.
- Ensures on-going training of AIDET, SOC and best practices is provided throughout the department.
- Applies and coaches team and ensures compliance with 5S and continuous improvement projects.
- Monitors and reviews team MA performance report
- Reviews patient care processes with interdisciplinary team for quality care.
- Promotes teambuilding and strong communication between various service lines.
- Keeps sites in compliance with TJC, DH, CHDP, and Medi-Cal Managed Care requirements.
- Works with interdisciplinary team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations
- Medical Assistant diploma from an approved course required
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements.
- Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advance Resuscitation Training required.
- FOR THE MENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT (118) ONLY: Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County, to locations that may have limited access to public transportation; proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required. DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: Requires an active Class C California driver's license, proof of liability insurance at $100,000, on vehicle used. No more than 2 points in past 12 months; No suspensions in last 2 years for moving violations; No DUI, reckless or felony Driving within 5 years. No license revocation in 7 years.
Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in ambulatory care setting or similar setting highly preferred.
- Ability to maintain good interpersonal interactions with clients and co-workers as a member of a multi-disciplinary community health team with a diverse multi-cultural population.
- Ability to multi-task, be flexible, ensure accuracy, and meet changing priorities in a fast-paced, high-workload environment.
- Basic computer literacy ability to comply with department needs and expectations (i.e., electronic medical record documentation, obtaining background information and reports on patients, following up on appointments, etc.).
- Basic organizational skills, attention to detail, time-management skills, and strong motivation to meet deadlines and achieve goals.
- Bilingual in English/ Spanish preferred.
- Clinical knowledge of medical terminology, medical procedures, CPT, and ICD-9 (10).
- Intermediate knowledge of insurance providers, their portals, and their expectations for authorization approval.
- Intermediate written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with patients and family members who speak English as a second language.
In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits. $27.00 - $31.53
If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
