Job Title: Instrumentation & Controls Engineer Location: Resolution Copper, Superior, AZ Job Type: Full-Time Shift: 4 days on / 3 days off (10-hour day) ** VISA Sponsorship Not available ** About the Opportunity: As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer you will provide technical discipline support to various stakeholders across the organization to develop, implement, maintain and improve instrumentation and controls systems required to monitor and automate the processes critical for the operation of the mine. You will apply relevant standards and industry best practices to ensure; designs are technically sound and fit for purpose; equipment selected meets the required specifications; installations are executed and commissioned per design and to the quality standards established, operation and maintenance practices adhere to the asset management systems established, and retired assets are decommissioned and disposed of properly. Role Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Serve as the technical authority and accountability owner for instrumentation and controls strategies and systems site wide.
- Develop, maintain and administer site standards, policies and practices with adherence to relevant regulations, industry standards and Rio Tinto policies, standards and procedures.
- Provide discipline engineering technical support to site's operations, maintenance and reliability teams to troubleshoot, optimize and continuously improve existing instrumentation and control assets and systems through the application of complex problem-solving techniques.
- Provide discipline engineering technical support for design, procurement, installation, commissioning, quality assurance and handover activities associated with execution of capital projects.
- Provide discipline engineering technical support to studies and early engineering teams to ensure proposed designs comply with relevant industry, Rio Tinto and Resolution standards, policies and practices; and coordinate engagement with appropriate stakeholders to ensure proposed designs are fit for purpose.
- Manage logging, access to and visualization of data from field instruments to support process monitoring/optimization, incident investigation and trend forecasting.
- Provide discipline engineering technical support to various teams to develop and adhere to capital and operating budgets.
- Maintain and expand technical and functional knowledge in industry through continuing self-directed or employer sponsored professional development.
Role Specific Tasks
- Support technicians for day to day troubleshooting of instrumentation and controls equipment and systems.
- Develop and/or review functional descriptions and control philosophies for new and/or modifications to existing instrumentation and control systems.
- Develop, review and troubleshoot PLC programs.
- Develop/modify and deploy graphics for SCADA/HMI system screens.
- Develop and/or review instrumentation and controls drawings for new installations
- Commissioning of new and/or modifications to existing instrumentation and controls systems.
- Update instrumentation and control drawings and documents to reflect as-built conditions in adherence to management of change standards and procedures.
- Develop and/or review instrumentation and control equipment specifications for procurement
- Lead/Support upgrades to existing instrumentation and control systems which have become obsolete or are no longer supported by the original equipment manufacturer.
- Lead implementation of operations/process monitoring and visualization systems/programs.
- Participate in risk assessments in support of project planning and execution
Required Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of various PLC programming methods (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block, etc.)
- Knowledge of and experience with Allen Bradley and Rockwell Automation equipment.
- Familiarity with PLC and SCADA/HMI software (Studio 5000 software, Factory Talk View Studio Site Edition, Connected Components Workbench CCW)
- Experience with Plant PAX deployed SCADA systems.
- Experience developing and programming graphics for SCADA screens
- Ability to interpret Instrumentation & Control drawings
- Experience facilitating design reviews
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
- Basic skills in computer aided design software (AutoCAD or similar)
- Basic understanding of network architecture and communication protocols.
- Experience in developing and implementing commissioning plans for complex systems
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in teams
- Exemplary critical thinking, data analysis and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
- Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering
- 3+ years of relevant work experience in engineering and/or maintenance
