  • Estimated annual base pay: $116,800.00(minimum) - $146,000.00midpoint) - $175,200.00(maximum)

Are you ready to make your mark? If you're a Military Marine Business Development Manager, we have an exciting opportunity for you. Reporting to the Global Services Sales Director, the Military Marine Business Development position will identify, develop, and lead strategic growth initiatives in the Military Marine sector, with an emphasis on propulsion systems, power management, and digital system solutions for naval applications. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who combine military operational insight with demonstrated success driving technology adoption and commercial strategy-particularly in sectors advancing modernization and mission-critical systems in defense markets.

What You Will Be Doing

  • The Business Development Manager is responsible for the full lifecycle of business development activities targeting U.S. Navy and DoD prime contractors. Key focus areas include:
    • Propulsion Systems
    • Electric Plant Power Management
    • Simulation and Modeling
    • Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) & Data Acquisition
    • Full System Design Life Cycle
    • Gas Turbine Control
    • Cybersecurity
    • Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Simulation
  • The BD Manager will execute the strategy for Military Marine market expansion, manage multiple concurrent pursuits, and ensure alignment with customer needs and defense priorities. This includes shaping requirements, identifying differentiators, and articulating Woodward's value in complex procurement and acquisition environments.
  • Strategic Market Expansion: Identify and penetrate Military Marine markets while navigating global regulatory frameworks and acquisition strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for service and maintenance models; lead distributed, cross-functional teams across geographies.
  • Customer-Centric Development: Build long-term relationships with U.S. Navy and prime contractor stakeholders. Gather and translate customer insights into actionable product and service roadmaps.
  • Works directly with leaders within and across the value stream to understand and keep abreast of business strategies.
  • Leads the evaluation of strategic customer structures and organizations to identify and prioritize opportunities to expand sales with new products and solutions; conducts in-depth analysis of key players in the markets, the dynamics of their organizational structure and activities, their value chain, their alignment with our strategic direction and ambitions; explores adjacent markets and assesses the feasibility and profitability of our offerings as solutions.
  • Nurtures contacts and organizes visits to deliver the commercial message. This engagement plan should include discussions with or visits to our target customer's customer, e.g. EPCs, to gain insights into the business drivers of our target customers.
  • Facilitates the development of the account by the Sales force. Integrates value streams to create and promote multi-product, bundled offerings. Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of how our solutions and the solutions of the other value streams can be combined or offered as a system to create more value for the customer.
  • Guides sales team on proposal requirements and approach to help them win the deal.
  • Contributes to the development of new product strategies, support strategies and road maps to meet customer requirements. Provides feedback to Marketing on the strengths and weaknesses of the offering and value chain. Supports and advises in developing sales strategies for new and existing products or services, aligned with product roadmaps.
  • Drives business expansion with existing customers and new customers through new product/service offerings. Acts as the voice of the customer and is a key influencer of value stream strategic alignment. Partners with account managers of strategic accounts to help them articulate our offerings to their customers.

What We Are Looking For

  • US - Bachelor's Degree in Sciences (BS) Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Applied Science - required
  • US -Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from a top-tier institution with a focus in business analytics, enterprise management, or systems strategy - required
  • 10+ years' experience in related industry including Sales and Business development responsibilities
  • Ability to initiate multi-functional teams across the sub segments to leverage strategies and achieve strategic objectives. Quickly builds connections across the organization; needs to rapidly understand internal sales, marketing and product processes to be successful.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills. Be able to make 'cold calls', use social media and network to reach DMUs at customers.
  • Extensive experience in business development or commercial leadership within defense or adjacent sectors
  • Background in U.S. Navy or military operations, particularly in engineering, systems, or nuclear disciplines
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles and strategic partnerships
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with experience working across matrixed, global teams
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally and engage at all levels within customer organizations - up to 30%
