A Brief Overview
Directly responsible for the leadership for a service oriented and financially successful health and fitness center to include oversight for all aspects of the business, programming and facility.Membership / Sales Responsibilities of the General Manager: The General Manager is responsible for obtaining center memberships, meeting sales objectives and positive revenue results. Additionally, responsible to drive the development, coordination and implementation of the annual marketing plan and membership promotional campaigns. This accounts for 10 to 15 hours per week. What You Will Do
- Develops and implements strategies and plans that maintain a high level of member satisfaction that also ensures member attrition, revenue, and net operating margin targets are met and exceeded.
- Develops and manages overall operating budget to ensure accuracy, trending, and profitability.
- Demonstrates strong performance management skills and visibility to ensure the facility is clean, operates efficiently, meets and exceeds members' expectations, and staff is performing their duties and responsibilities.
- Holds weekly meetings with the fitness center leadership team to facilitate communication on operations, future plans and strategies, and departmental updates.
- Takes an active interest in solving leader and employee concerns and encourages the open door process when problems cannot be resolved internally.
- Provides the necessary materials and equipment for leaders and staff to perform their work efficiently and effectively. Takes action as necessary to demonstrate and justify needs.
- Directly responsible for the aquatic facilities and staff (including lifeguards, indoor pools, swim instructors and whirlpool areas). Directly responsible for front desk staffing and operations servicing over 3,500 members and 300,000 annual visits.
- Maintain daily operations of the aquatic area.
- Develop and coordinate group and private Learn-to-Swim Program for children.
- Directly responsible for the management of the group exercise program and personnel servicing over 3,500 members for studio, cycling, and aquatic classes.
- Demonstrates knowledge and practical understanding of group exercise programs as they relate to markets of all ages by offering a variety of different classes appealing to the different fitness levels of our members.
- Implements programs based on specific components as they relate to our core market of adult and senior populations.
- Develops and implements special programs/theme group exercise classes to assist in member motivation and retention.
- Directly Manages the work activities of the membership department to include the Member Service Reps and Business Office Coordinator. Interviews, hires, and trains staff. Evaluates performance and provides feedback. Makes personnel action recommendations regarding promotions, transfers, disciplinary, or discharge
- Develops and assures that personal and departmental weekly, monthly and annual sales goals are attained.
- Prepares and submits weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual sales projections and reports in a timely fashion as scheduled.
- Coordinates efficient processes for responding to all membership inquiries (e.g. phone and email inquiries, walk-in and off-site events) and implements a computerized lead tracking system for all inquiry, prospect and follow-up activities.
- Maintains high level knowledge of all aspects of club management software regarding members, point-of-sale, reporting and staff user administration.
- Sells center memberships personally when needed as a back up to the membership team.
- Works with UH's Marketing Department to design and implement an annual sales and marketing campaign and maintains sales literature and promotional item inventory.
- Initiates personal and department involvement in local civic and service organizations in cooperation with other UH departments and leadership.
- Coordinates the flow of information from the medical fitness center department heads to the Marketing Department for center newsletters and program guides.
- Communicates membership sales initiatives to various department leaders as identified.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
