ICC is a unique unit that sees a variety of patients ranging from hematology, oncology, and sickle cell. Patients present with urgent and non-urgent conditions but are typically more stable than the emergency room population. Most patients will be discharged home from the ICC, but some will be admitted into the James. ICC sets appointments for patients based off calls they received from the patients primary team or oncologist. These patients may be coming from another area of the hospital, such as radiation or infusion, or may be coming directly from home. This is a smaller unit, leading to strong relationships between staff members and a supportive environment for staff. Nurses get the opportunity to develop numerous skills and create relationships with James patients in a less acute setting.
