Job Description Summary

Working under close supervision, the position is responsible for sorting and metering campus mail, both intra-campus and off-campus, along with delivery and collection of campus mail at University departments, both on and off-campus.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Meters and processes University's outgoing mail, including classifying, weighing, and determining rates.

  • Receives and sorts incoming and outgoing mail/packages for distribution, both intra-campus and off-campus, and assists with day-to-day operations of Mail Services.

  • Supplies parcel lockers with packages, as needed.

  • Delivers and collects mail from University departments both on and off campus.

  • Assist at the Mail Services lobby window as needed.

  • Operate Point of Sale and USPS machines as needed.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High School graduate with at least three year's related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of USPS guidelines for mailing procedures.

  • Knowledge of customer service standards and practices and the ability to keep customers, management, and coworkers well informed.

  • Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office, the internet, and other relevant software.

  • Solves problems associated with the collection and delivery of campus mail.

  • Ability to display professional attitude and appearance in approach to the job.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively.

  • Ability to demonstrate concise and effective communication skills both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to identify and analyze problems, presenting solutions using various resources and creative ideas.

  • Ability to utilize input from others and research acceptable solutions in conflict situations.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities with enthusiasm.

  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record; must be insurable.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Mail center or mail courier experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently.

  • Driving, lifting, climbing, standing, walking, talking, and hearing. Subject to both environmental conditions; activities occur inside and outside. May be exposed to hazards and noise.
