Position Purpose |
As part of the Health Sciences and Biomedical Libraries team, the Medical Education Lead Librarian supports education, research, and clinical care for the Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth Health (DH) communities. This role focuses on serving the medical students, particularly through the Undergraduate Medical Education (
UME) program representing the first four years of medical education culminating in the MD degree. The Medical Education Lead collaborates with colleagues across Dartmouth Libraries and Geisel to integrate library resources and services into the
UME curriculum. The Medical Education Lead will utilize best practices in teaching, instructional design, and learning assessment to serve the evolving needs of the
UME and other education programs at Geisel.
This is a hybrid work location eligible position. |

ALA-accredited master's degree in library and/or information science, or a combination of an advanced subject or professional degree (Master of Education, etc.) combined with relevant academic library experience.
* At least 2 years of related experience.
* Commitment to excellence in teaching both in-person and online, including familiarity with inclusive teaching and universal design best practices.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with diverse stakeholders. |
Preferred Qualifications |
* Educational background in the health or life sciences or two years of experience in an academic library. |

Key Accountabilities
Description |
Education Support
* Leads the integration of library resources, services, and instruction into the
UME curriculum; supporting the development of research and evidence-based practice skills in Geisel medical students.
* Leads the creation of user-friendly online learning objects such as research guides, video tutorials, and modules in the learning management system (
LMS) that represent the latest best practices in pedagogy, universal design, and instructional design.
* Coordinates the assessment and evaluation of education programs provided by the Health Sciences and Biomedical Librarians to all Geisel and DH community members.
* Fosters an environment of learning and research independence by conceptualizing, creating, and providing high-quality educational opportunities and services to the
UME and other education programs at Geisel.
* In collaboration with other librarians, engages in lesson planning, revision, and innovation for existing educational offerings including orientations, embedded instruction sessions, and workshops; coordinates scheduling of workshop calendars.
* Builds productive working relationships with Geisel and DH faculty in order to understand how best to integrate library resources and services into the curriculum of the medical school and other graduate degree programs at Geisel.
* Assesses and selects resources and research tools in support of health sciences and interprofessional education, in consultation with the Collection Services Librarian.
* Continually assesses programmatic needs and develops new educational offerings as appropriate. |

Research Support
* Provides information and research consultation services addressing faculty, staff, student, and patient information needs. Conducts expert literature searches in support of education, research, and clinical care.
* Supports Geisel researchers by providing consultations to support publishing including the identification of appropriate journals for submission, investigating submission requirements, and providing open access title analysis and comparisons.
* Participates in systematic and scoping review service, providing expert search services and other expertise as needed. |

* Serves on and supports Geisel, DH, and Dartmouth committees and initiatives as appropriate.
* Represents Geisel and the Dartmouth Libraries in relevant local, regional, and national organizations; participates in Geisel and Dartmouth Libraries task forces and committees as appropriate.
* Keeps abreast of advances in health sciences, academic librarianship, educational technologies, learning assessment, and pedagogy/andragogy. |
