Hourly Pay: $24.35

This job description indicates the nature of production work routinely performed by production employees within the ET/Cry-o-vac Department at the Smithfield Foods plant. This description is meant to help individuals who may be unfamiliar with food processing and what is required to perform this type of work.

Production employees are routinely required to perform a variety of tasks that require manual material handling and the use of hand tools, scissors and equipment. This work may be physically demanding and can require the use of some or all body parts and muscle groups. Good hand-eye coordination and upper extremity motor skills are essential for most job tasks. Additional essential functions may be applicable to specific jobs.

Job Requirements

Bagging product, working with a knife, reviewing product, making sheets, and standing for up to two to 3 hours before breaks. You will pick up a labeled box from the stack in front of your workstation. Then place the box on your rollerball workstation. You will be boxing product as it comes by on the conveyor belt and review for leakers. If the product is a leaker, remove the product off the line and place in the proper area. If the product is not a leaker, remove it from the belt and place in box. When the box is full of the required number of pieces close the lid and push box onto the takeaway conveyor. Work in controlled temperature (30-45 degrees or 50 to 60 degrees) environment found in production room or box room. A variety of arm and hand movements are required in applying force, movements and repetition related to pinching, gripping, pulling, lifting, extending, flexing the hands and arms to perform tasks. Being able to understand and follow oral instruction from the supervisors and designated staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Ability to recognize leakers. Ability to recognize the various products that are being produced and accurately placed in a box. The ability to place the correct number of pieces of the product being manufactured into the box. Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to push boxes weighing up to 55 pounds onto take-away conveyor. Ability to read production schedule and follow. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Be available to work scheduled hours, which may include required overtime, depending upon production demands. Additional duties as assigned by management.
