Primary Purpose:
To develop, coordinate, lead and administer the provision of complex legal services for various Business Units, under the direction of the General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel and/or Senior Counsel, with a focus on practice before the California Public Utilities Commission and other regulatory agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Primarily responsible for oversight on certain legal cases or material transactions.
  • Conducts legal research (including use of computerized data bases) on assigned points of procedural and substantive law, focusing on regulatory law and procedures relevant to the California Public Utilities Commission and other regulatory agencies.
  • Prepares briefs (including cite checking), arguments, affidavits, and various legal pleadings and documents as directed or as required for assigned cases or material transactions; maintain related document files and legal correspondence.
  • Conducts studies, reviews witness testimony, and reviews discovery responses.
  • Appears at hearings for assigned cases or assist other attorneys in preparation for hearings.
  • Works with administrative assistants and paralegals in the preparation of documents for filing before the California Public Utilities Commission or other regulatory agencies
  • Communicates all significant information about the client to lawyers in the Law Department so they can serve the Business Units effectively.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

Hybrid Schedule:



  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays. Effective January 5, 2026, employees who currently follow a three-day, in-office hybrid schedule will shift to four days in the office per week, Monday through Thursday.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.



Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree From a recognized college or university.
  • JD (Juris Doctor) Must have satisfactorily graduated from an ABA credited law school.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience, ideally in a regulatory attorney position.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently handle regulatory proceedings for state regulated entities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong analytic ability.
  • Thorough knowledge of law and ability to apply this knowledge accurately to various legal situations.
  • Experience in the utility industry is desirable, but not required.
  • Maturity of judgment and conduct.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience as a litigator representing companies in complex litigation matters is desirable.
  • Experience in the utility industry is desirable, but not required.
