Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking an experienced litigation paralegal through the firm's alternative-track contract attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge. The selected paralegal will work with the firm's Litigation practice to handle a high-volume of subpoena responses for the firm's institutional clients. The selected paralegal may work remotely but should be prepared to support West Coast business hours.

The selected paralegal will be responsible for tracking and responding to legal requests such as subpoenas, small claims, and arbitration demands; working with clients to collect documents and data for production; overseeing tracking systems; data entry; and serving as a liaison with the client. Other tasks include drafting correspondence and escalating legal questions. Close attention to detail, sound judgement, strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills while prioritizing and managing multiple assignments are required.


This contract position offers the flexibility of remote work and full-time hours; 37.5 hours per week is generally anticipated. The amount of work may vary from week to week and a minimum number of hours of work per week is not guaranteed. While work will be performed remotely, candidates must be willing to accommodate a West Coast business schedule. The initial engagement will be for a six-month term, but there is a strong potential for renewal for successful candidates, although any renewals are not guaranteed.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, format, and edit objections to subpoenas, correspondence with counsel, and other legal documents
  • Research local rules and conduct basic Westlaw research for attorney review
  • Use of electronic document review databases to search, review, and produce documents
  • Correspondence with document vendors regarding document collection and review parameters
  • Track case dockets and deadlines for arbitrations and small claims and create first drafts of related filings
  • Frequent communication with counsel within and outside the firm; project team members; and clients
  • Use of client query tools or forms to collect documents or data for production
  • Answer, screen, and respond to phone calls
  • Accurately and completely record billable in accordance with firm policy and client-imposed billing protocols; enter and release time promptly in compliance with the firm's announced deadlines
  • Initiate conflict checks
  • Collect, organize, and save data and documents on a daily basis
  • Enter data into tracking systems
  • Other duties as assigned by the litigation partner and client program manager.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years of paralegal experience focused on litigation at a mid-sized or large law firm and/or with large institutional clients
  • Residency in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NM, NY, OK, OR, PA, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WDC
  • Bachelor's degree and completion of paralegal program of study, or clear demonstration of equivalent knowledge and skill in accordance with state requirements
  • Interest in technology in the workplace and technology companies
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and independently
  • Strong skills in word processing and computer use; ability to type 65 wpm with high accuracy.
  • High attention to detail and sensitivity to confidential materials
  • High level of energy; able to follow instructions, work at a fast pace, and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, service focused environment and to handle stressful situations in a calm, composed manner
  • Proficiency in MS Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat or Nuance
  • Excellent grammar, proofreading, and organizational skills
  • Availability to work remotely, anticipated full-time hours, 37.5 hours/week, and support PST business hours
  • Flexibility for hours to potentially fluctuate from week to week
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Strong analysis, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Able to learn and work independently with limited supervision
  • Experience in a law firm, preferably supporting a multi-office environment

Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT's flexible attorney and professional staff program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). This role is eligible for benefits. Salary Range
The hourly range for this position in CA, IL, MD, MN, NY, OR, WA, and WDC is $35 to $40 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
