Empath Health is currently seeking a Data Engineer to Transform Data into Impact while supporting our Mission!

The Data Engineer plays a key role in building, optimizing, and maintaining data systems and infrastructure to support data-driven decision-making across the organization. This position focuses on developing scalable data models, automating data pipelines, and ensuring data quality and integrity. The role requires proficiency in SQL, Python, and data modeling practices, as well as close collaboration with data analysts, scientists, and other IT staff.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines to support analytics and business intelligence needs.
2. Build and optimize data models for reporting and operational use, ensuring high performance and scalability.
3. Write efficient and reusable SQL and Python code to automate data integration, transformation, and validation tasks.
4. Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
5. Maintain and monitor data architecture to ensure data accuracy, availability, and security.
6. Implement and manage ETL/ELT workflows using modern frameworks and tools.
7. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data systems, pipelines, and data governance policies.
8. Participate in the evaluation and selection of data tools and technologies.
9. Monitor pipeline performance and troubleshoot issues as needed to ensure timely data availability.
10. Collaborate with IT teams to integrate systems and manage access controls and data privacy.
11. Contribute to the development and enforcement of best practices in data engineering, coding standards, and workflow management.
12. Train and support colleagues on data engineering concepts and tools when necessary.
13. Assist in building out data quality and validation frameworks.
14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Data Analytics Director or equivalent.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation and automation.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and services such as S3, Redshift, BigQuery, or Azure Data Lake. Specifically Azure.
  • Knowledge of modern data modeling techniques (star schema, snowflake schema, etc.). Emphasis here as it will be a primary job responsibility.
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools and frameworks (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Talend).
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Understanding of DevOps and CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
