Architectural Metals (Metals) is a segment within Apogee that is a provider of aluminum windows, curtainwall (soon to be retired), storefront and entrance systems. We offer an integrated set of capabilities including design, engineering, extrusion, finishing, fabrication, and assembly.

Our market-leading brands offer solutions for a wide range of construction project types and sizes across the U.S. and Canada. Position Summary

Develop and implement equipment and processes to manufacture products to design specifications and quality standards. Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls as it relates to safety, quality, productivity and cost.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing technical direction for assigned processes and equipment.

  • Develop and maintain written procedures and work instructions for assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Communicate with other departments and management regarding manufacturing capabilities, production requirements. and other considerations to facilitate the manufacturing processes.

  • Optimize existing production processes by implementing solutions for equipment effectiveness, flow and efficiency improvements.

  • Design, develop, test, source and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.

  • Coordinate vendor and customer activity to support projects.

  • Assist with technical aspects of Continuous Improvement projects and kaizen activity.

  • Apply statistical methods and perform analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and increased efficiency.

  • Apply Lean/Six Sigma principles.

  • Promote safety at all times.

Experience & Skills

Education:

  • B.S. in mechanical, chemical, manufacturing or industrial engineering (or equivalent)

Experience:

  • 1-3+ years applicable experience in an engineering role within a manufacturing environment.

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with lean, kaizen, six sigma concepts.

  • Computer proficiency (Excel, Microsoft Office, CAD experience preferred).

  • Experience with processing equipment and control systems

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - technical writing experience preferred.

  • Project management experience and the ability to multi-task

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to work with tools and maintenance personnel.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and influential leadership skills.

Work Environment/Travel Requirements

  • Frequent exposure to the production environment. (Heat, operating machinery and noise)

  • Office duties require sitting behind a desk, performing tasks on a computer

  • Plant duties require standing and moving about the facility and equipment on a daily basis

  • Position involves limited travel

  • Physical Requirements

    • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.

    • Lift up to 10 lbs.
