Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice. Work performed in accordance with physician orders. Defined duties are performed in neonatal, pediatric and adult patient populations. Perform all duties and responsibilities required of a Respiratory Care Practitioner level III.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Expert in delivering specialty gases on intra-facility transport
* Initiates and participate in the decision making/evaluation of new equipment and /or clinical procedures
* Reviews, revises and develops policy and procedure as required
* Serve as a primary resource for asthma education and TJC compliance and trach education
* Serve as a resource and mentor to colleagues and other

professionals

* Performs relief charge duties
* Proficient in and serves as a resource for therapies (e.g. pulmonary vasodilators, therapeutic medical gases, complex modalities, unusual treatments/medications)
* Performs inter-facility transports with inclusion of medical gases (air and ground)
* Provides Department specific on-boarding to new hires/travelers within the department
* Provides Clinical on-boarding to new hires/travelers within the department
* Assists with ventilator competency check-offs for new hires/travelers within the department

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

* Education: Completion of a CoARC approved respiratory care program
* Education: Three (3) year of practice as an RCP at LPCHS

Seven (7) year experience as an RCP in a Neo-Peds Critical Care facility (including completed time in the Respiratory Care Residency Program)

-Pediatric Trauma LVL 1

* License/Certification: BLS - Certified in Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association

-AND-

NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program

-AND-

RCP - Respiratory Therapy License from the State of California

-AND-

RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist

-AND-

NPS - Neonatal Pediatric Specialist

-AND-

PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support

-AND-

ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support

KNOWLEDGE

These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education or licensure/certification.

* Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver
* Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area Knowledge of Medical Terminology
* Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes Knowledge of the indications, contraindications, and hazards of continuous long-term or short term mechanical ventilation, various respiratory therapy techniques, and anatomy, physiology and pathology related to the respiratory system required
* Ability to conduct analysis and formulate conclusions utilizing critical thinking

  • RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support
  • or
  • Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner by California Respiratory Care Board
  • or
  • NRP Provider Card by American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
  • RQI Healthcare Provider Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • or
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of hire
  • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • or
  • RQI Healthcare Provider Advanced Life Support

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $80.22 to $90.97
