This position, under general supervision, performs repairs and preventative maintenance to City buildings and may be involved in renovation and demolition projects periodically. Reports to a Public Works Supervisor.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Performs a variety of maintenance and repairs on City buildings and equipment. These duties may include electrical, heating and A/C, carpentry, demolitions, renovations, plumbing, painting, mechanical, roof repair, floor repair, minor concrete repair, vehicle/truck/ equipment repair, cleaning, street maintenance and performing other departmental needs as they arise.
Detailed inspections of buildings and equipment may be required at times. May be required to operate a variety of heavy and specialized equipment after being properly trained. Required to assist with special events and projects as needed. Responsible to periodically provide on-call departmental emergency coverage after normal working hours. Responsible to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within 1 year of hire date.
Moves and sets up furniture, pictures, etc. as needed and assigned. May clean interior and exterior of trucks. Performs janitorial duties, recycling tasks and other manual tasks as required. Is required to fill in for other positions within the Public Works department. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent with the ability to learn and utilize new skills in the area of technical work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess or be able to obtain by employment a valid SC Drivers License.
