Overview

Join a dedicated team that serves as the frontline connection between our customers and the water system. As an entry-level Field Services team member, you'll support accurate meter reading, service connections, and customer issue resolution-all while learning from experienced professionals and gaining hands-on experience in essential field operations. This role is key to ensuring our systems reflect real-world conditions and our service meets the highest standards.

Work Location and Schedule

  • Primarily based at our Covina, CA office
  • Regular business hours: Monday through Friday 7:30am - 5:00pm.
  • May require overtime, nights and weekends as needed
  • May require local travel to other locations within our service areas in Southern California

Wha You'll Do

Meter Reading
* Accurately reads and records manual (analog) and AMR (digital) meters using an electronic device, and flags issues such as leaks, stopped meters, and illegal connections.
* Coordinates with Billing staff to ensure timely and accurate meter reads; completes re-reads as assigned.
* Performs additional tasks such as extracting AMR data logs, GPS tagging, and meter flow testing as needed.

Route Maintenance
* Maintains assigned meter reading routes, identifying hazards or obstacles such as overgrown vegetation or damaged infrastructure.
* Identifies and reports water facility issues; replaces broken meter box tops and boxes when necessary.
* May use safety equipment (cones, barricades, etc.) to secure or correct damaged or leaking facilities.

Connections/Reconnections
* Performs water service turn-ons, shut-offs, and lockouts for non-payment or account changes (move-ins/move-outs).
* Records final meter readings and enters accurate solution codes into the ERP system.

Customer Service
* Communicates clearly and professionally with customers to explain service issues, resolve concerns, and respond to field service requests.
* Handles field service activities such as leak investigations, meter re-reads, pressure issues, facility checks, door tags, and reconnects/disconnects.
* Understands tariffs and General Order 103A; investigates billing anomalies, estimated reads, and performs pressure tests.

Dead-end Flushing
* Assists with flushing of dead-end mains to maintain and improve water quality within the distribution system.

What You'll Bring

Experience




  • Minimum of 1 year working in industrial, manufacturing, or utility environment, including driving for work purposes; no prior experience with Field Services functions required.





Education / Licenses / Certifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent required



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Water System Knowledge:
    Understands municipal water system operations and drinking water treatment processes, including applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • General:
    Demonstrates the ability to perform calculations, follow instructions, use tools properly, recognize equipment issues, make sound decisions, interpret data, and manage time to meet deadlines.
  • Communication:
    Communicates clearly and professionally with internal and external customers to ensure mutual understanding and build strong working relationships.
  • Safety: Applies OSHA safety standards, uses protective equipment properly, identifies and addresses hazards, and prioritizes personal and public safety at all times.
  • Vehicle Operation:
    Operates company vehicles safely using defensive driving techniques and in accordance with all applicable laws and policies.
  • General Administration:
    Accurately completes and submits all required administrative forms and documents in a timely manner.
  • Computer Skills:
    Uses various software systems and mobile devices to enter data, manage work tasks, and communicate effectively.

Work Environment and Conditions

  • Works outside and may be subjected to adverse working conditions and inclement weather.
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time, must be able to walk long distances, must be able to operate a Company passenger vehicle or pickup truck, must have adequate vision and hearing to identify hazards in the field and to communicate with others in person or by telephone and may require moderate lifting and carrying up 50 pounds. Must be able to climb stairs.
