A specialized healthcare professional who assists in the diagnosis and treatment of pain management through imaging techniques and image-guided procedures, often working closely with pain management physicians.
Job Purpose To perform diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures, particularly those related to pain management (e.g., spinal injections, nerve blocks, joint injections), using modalities such as fluoroscopy. Ensures high-quality imaging support while maintaining patient comfort, safety, and dignity. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities: * Imaging & Procedure Support: o Perform fluoroscopy -guided procedures for pain interventions. o Operate and maintain imaging equipment safely and efficiently. o Assist clinicians during procedures such as epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, and radiofrequency ablations. * Patient Care: o Prepare and position patients appropriately for procedures. o Provide clear explanations and reassurance to patients before, during, and after procedures. o Monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications during imaging. * Technical Duties: o Ensure high-quality imaging with minimal radiation exposure. o Maintain accurate records and imaging documentation in the PACS/RIS system. o Follow safety protocols for infection control, radiation safety, and contrast media usage. * Collaboration: o Work closely with pain specialists, radiologists, and nursing staff in procedure planning and execution. o Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings when required. * Compliance & Development: o Adhere to all legal, ethical, and regulatory standards. o Keep up to date with continuing education and advancements in pain imaging techniques. ________________________________________ Qualifications: * BSc in Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent). * ARRT (US) registration, or relevant licensing authority. * Additional training or experience in interventional radiography or pain management procedures preferred. ________________________________________ Skills & Attributes: * Strong understanding of anatomy and imaging techniques relevant to pain management. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to remain calm and supportive during invasive procedures. * Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. * Commitment to patient-centered care. ________________________________________ Working Conditions: * May require working in procedure rooms, theatres, and outpatient settings. * Involves standing for long periods and occasional lifting/positioning of patients. * May involve exposure to radiation; PPE and training provided. Education Associate's degree Diagnostic Imaging required
