Application Window Open date: June 30, 2025 Next review date: Wednesday, Jul 30, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Wednesday, Dec 30, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description Assistant/Associate Adjunct Professor of Surgery - Violence Prevention Researcher The Department of Surgery, Division of Acute Care Surgery at ZSFG and the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a full-time innovative social researcher with expertise in the field of violence prevention and intervention. The candidate will join a vibrant team of public health professionals who work to address the root causes of violence by using a public health model through their work as a hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP). The HVIP, the Wraparound Project, has been in existence for twenty years and continues to look for new ways to measure the value, through scholarly activities, of the efforts of the program's staff, the Violence Prevention Professionals. The position will lead a research program dedicated to building the evidence for best practices in violence prevention and intervention and who is also interested in leading multi-institutional work with colleagues in other HVIPs across the country. Candidates who are interested in Program Management and being part of a leadership team that will continue to provide strategic direction for the HVIP and build on local and national partnerships are highly desirable. Candidates who are well-versed in qualitative research methodologies and who work well in a team environment are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree with a strong background in public health and social drivers of health. Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of surgery residents and medical students and will be expected to be active participants in the Department's residency training and educational programs. Candidates should expect to take on a mentorship role for learners looking to develop their own pursuits in violence intervention work. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $118,000 - $183,500.
