About the Job

The School of Public Health Division of Epidemiology & Community Health is seeking applications for up to 3 part-time Assistant Building Managers (temporary/casual 0001) to join the Driven To Discover (D2D) Research Facility at the Minnesota State Fair.

The School of Public Health (SPH) is committed to equity in our mission and operations. In pursuit of this goal, we consider an individual's record working with students and colleagues from historically marginalized backgrounds and experience identifying and eliminating systemic barriers to academic success. Because the SPH and the Division seek to increase the diversity of its faculty and staff, we particularly encourage applications from those who belong to groups that have been historically underrepresented in our discipline, including those who are Black, Indigenous, and people of color, those with disabilities, those who are first generation, veterans, and those from 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

Pay: $16.00 to $20.00 per hour; plus fair admission

Work Arrangements:

Time Commitment: August 21 - September 1, 2025 during the fair itself. Must be available to work most days of the fair, including evenings and weekends. Approximately 25 hours per week.

The Driven to Discover ("D2D") Research Facility at the State Fair brings researchers and the Minnesota community together. D2D provides turn-key space to studies looking to recruit and collect data for their minimal-risk human subjects' projects. This unique, one-of-a-kind opportunity serves as a way to build a culture of research across Minnesota and showcase the innovative work being done across the state.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for experience in a cross-disciplinary, human-subjects research environment.

Job Responsibilities:

100% temporary Assistant is needed to help with building set-up/take-down and work during the fair itself.

  • Help prepare the D2D building for the 2025 Minnesota State Fair and close it down after the fair. Help D2D staff run the building during the fair.
  • Set up and take down booths, manage equipment (e.g., iPads), troubleshoot issues (e.g., rain, electrical outages, broken equipment), handle emergencies (e.g., falls, missing children), cleaning (including mopping the floor at the end of the night), learn state fair and D2D procedures, answer questions from researchers and fairgoers, promote fairgoer participation to fairgoers, and other duties as assigned by the D2D Manager.
Qualifications

Must be able to lift 35 pounds.

Preference will be given to people with experience working in a research or clinical environment.
