Reporting directly to the ED Nursing Director, the ED Nurse Manager shares responsibilities with 2 Nurse Mangers. Responsibilities include day to day operations of the department, ensuring effective throughput and safety. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining regulatory compliance, fostering staff engagement, and supporting a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous improvement. Our Emergency Department is staffed by over 100FTE's shared between 3 Nurse Managers.

This is an in-person role, supporting both the Biddeford and Sanford Emergency Department locations. This role is normally scheduled weekdays, with occasional early morning or evening responsibilities.

Summary:

The Nurse Manager has 24-hour accountability for the provision of nursing services on their unit. S/he is responsible for maintaining systems and procedures that will ensure quality patient care, promote cost effectiveness, educate and support competent nursing practice. The Nurse Manager skills entail coaching, motivating and leading a professional team to provide safe and effective care.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Masters in Nursing preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: Current registered nurse licensure by the Maine State Board of Nursing. Certification in Nursing leadership is desired. Ideal candidate will have 5+ years of RN experience including 2+ years of prior Emergency Department nursing experience.
  3. Experience: Minimum of three years' knowledge and experience in Management preferred.
  4. Strong customer service and communication skills required.
  5. Extensive interaction with physicians, intra- and interdepartmental staff members, patient and family members, office staff and professional organizations outside the hospital setting.
  6. Visual and mental concentration required for updating policies and practices, performance reviews and coordinating scheduling needs.
