Description This position performs minor to complex maintenance and service as needed to support ongoing facility operations that are initiated through work requests or as dispatched by the engineering control room, call center, or a member of management in accordance with Hospital standards.
Perform installations, equipment assembly, troubleshooting, repairs of all plumbing related equipment and maintains general building systems and structure. Installs and repairs domestic water piping as well as heating water loops and sewer lines as needed. Un-clogs sinks, commodes, waste hoppers, drainage lines as directed. Responds to all requests in order of priority and assists both with routine-to-complex request on an as needed basis. This position will provide support to Plumber III position. This position will be responsible for the ordering and the procurement up of any and all materials needed to carry out job functions. Ensures smooth transition of responsibilities to next shift. Responds to all hospital emergencies including but not limited to leaks, odors and fire alarms.
Ensures that repairs and new installation are compliant with current plumbing codes. Reports all concerns to the designated specialist or manager.
Must be able to perform job functions of the Plumber l. Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to operate hospital vehicles. This position may be subject to variable hours or shifts. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and or arms and to talk and hear. The employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must lift and or move up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
5 years Related and responsible experience with the plumbing trade (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Expertise in the area of specialty.
Strong knowledge of the Plumbing Code.
Math Ability: basic algebra.
Frequent bend/stoop, sit stand/walk and reach 8-12 hrs. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull >40 <75 pounds.
PC Operating Systems and mobile work entry devices.
Proficient knowledge of the Intranet, some Microsoft Office Suites ( Word, Excel).
Customer Service Skills, calculator and copy machine.

Required Licenses and Certifications
DCRA Journeyman Plumbing License (Required)
Valid Driver's License (Required)
Med Gas Certification 1 Year (Required)
Back Flow Certification 1 Year (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Plumbing Competencies
  • Conduct safety checks throughout the hospital complex.
  • Perform minor to complex repairs to general use plumbing fixtures to include but not limited to sinks, toilets and showers; replace valves, washers and fixtures.
  • Repair and replace all types of plumbing associated piping to include but not limited to copper, cast, galvanized and polypropylene.
  • Identify material and tool needed to carry out job function; make sure purchase orders and reports are legible, accurate, complete and on time.
  • Make sure that all plumbing work is completed with codes by the governing body having jurisdiction.
  • Establish and ensure compliance with work schedules.
Quality Assurance
  • Take the initiative to identify and report deficiencies in the physical plant of the hospital.
  • Diagnose and resolve trouble ticket/work orders thoroughly until completed.
  • Follow-up with requestor after completion of a work order to ensure problem has been corrected.
  • Routinely utilize all safety measures as related to work orders and specific task.

Corrective and Preventive Maintenance
  • Study blueprints and diagrams to ascertain layout, location and specifications of items to be installed.
  • Perform corrective maintenance on equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform preventive maintenance of plumbing system in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot plumbing equipment and systems to determine functional and structural problems.
  • Maintain corrective tickets; PM cards, project sheets and status board up-to-date.
