Position Summary

Join the vibrant and mission-driven team at African American Student Services (AASS)! We're looking for a motivated, creative, and community-focused student to assist with programming, research, and everyday operations. This is more than just a campus job - it's a chance to support initiatives that uplift and empower students at UNM. Whether you're helping organize impactful events, managing communications, or contributing to meaningful projects, your work will make a real difference.

What You'll Do:
Conduct research using online and library resources to support departmental projects and student initiatives.
Draft, edit, and format a variety of documents, including reports, flyers, outreach materials, and digital content.
Communicate with campus departments, community organizations, and external partners to support collaborative efforts.
Assist with day-to-day office operations such as organizing files, managing supplies, and maintaining shared resources.
Help maintain and update the AASS website, including content creation and layout design (if applicable).
Support the planning and execution of events such as educational workshops, cultural celebrations, and student forums.
Assist in creating presentations and may have opportunities to present at meetings or student-focused events.
Take on additional tasks as assigned, contributing to a positive and inclusive team environment.


Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous involvement with student organizations, campus departments, or community groups in a leadership or support role.
  • Experience planning or assisting with events, workshops, or outreach activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including creating promotional materials or presenting to groups.
  • Familiarity with organizing digital files, taking meeting notes, or handling basic administrative tasks.
  • Experience using tools like Canva, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, or website platforms such as WordPress or Wix.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people and support inclusive programming.
  • Comfortable taking initiative, managing time independently, and following through on assigned tasks.
  • A passion for serving and uplifting students at UNM
