About this Marketing Role The Marketing organization influences decisions by establishing and communicating our full product value proposition across the full value chain, from payers, to health systems, to prescribers, to patients. Marketers are masterful storytellers - accountable to inform positioning using an insight-driven marketing strategy, deliver simple compelling customer-led content creation, and design outstanding integrated customer experiences in partnership with networked partners (e.g. Customer Engagement and DDA). Marketers strategically use resources and their network to drive patient outcomes for today's innovations, and fuel tomorrow's breakthroughs. This Senior Director, Performance Marketing is integral to successfully delivering the Digital Marketing Vision. The Digital Marketing Office, led by the Head of Digital Marketing and reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, drives Genentech's digital marketing transformation and is focused on activating key areas. One of these focus areas is Performance Marketing. As the Senior Director, Performance Marketing Excellence, you will be a key evangelist and architect in spearheading Genentech's marketing transformation into a data and performance-driven, world-class marketing organization. You will shape, articulate, and implement the strategic vision for performance marketing, ensuring its principles are embedded across all marketing activities to maximize impact. This candidate will lead the performance marketing team within the Digital Marketing Office and will serve as the business owner for the measurement and optimization, leading the cross-functional effort to design, implement, and maintain Genentech's marketing analytical tools and capabilities
A pivotal responsibility is to cultivate a dynamic, data-centric marketing culture rooted in continuous improvement, a robust test-and-learn mentality, and the strategic adoption of performance marketing as a foundational discipline. You will shape, articulate, and implement the strategic vision for performance marketing, ensuring its principles of data-driven decision-making, robust measurement, and continuous optimization are embedded across all marketing activities that demonstrably accelerate business growth and improve patient outcomes. This role will provide performance marketing thought leadership and partner closely with DDA ( Digital, Data and Analytics) to align on a roadmap and implementation plan. This role requires an influential strategic thinker with a deep understanding of performance marketing principles, brand strategy, healthcare marketing, and emerging technologies. We are looking for a partnership and solution-oriented candidate who has a growth mindset and knows how to intuitively manage, inspire, and build trust in a matrixed organization. Key Job Responsibilities
As the subject matter expert (SME), lead the domain vision and champion innovation for performance marketing excellence. In close collaboration with Suite Stewards and other key stakeholders, co-develop compelling business cases and strategic roadmaps that guide the enterprise-wide advancement, execution, and evolution of performance marketing strategies. Ensure these collaborative initiatives are fully aligned with Genentech's overarching business and marketing goals to deliver measurable short and long-term success through measurable short and long-term success through ongoing performance monitoring and optimization Act as a key evangelist and trusted advisor, embedding a data-driven, performance-first mindset across the marketing organization. Lead change initiatives to foster a culture of continuous improvement, rigorous test-and-learn methodologies, and the adoption of incrementality testing as core disciplines. Develop and scale performance marketing capabilities, frameworks, and workflows/processes for robust measurement, insightful strategic reporting, and relentless optimization, making them integral to daily workflows and decision-making for all marketers. Lead Performance Marketing Innovation & Future-Proofing: Proactively identify, evaluate, and champion cutting-edge trends, analytical approaches, and methodologies in performance marketing and digital data innovation. Translate these insights into actionable strategies and pilot programs designed with clear mechanisms for impact measurement and iterative optimization that position Genentech at the forefront of marketing effectiveness. Consult, Collaborate, and Influence for Integrated Impact: Provide strategic performance marketing counsel to CPO leadership and Executive/Senior Marketing Directors (ESMDs), guiding them on portfolio-level performance marketing opportunities, investment optimization, and roadmap implementation. Foster deep collaboration with brand marketing, Customer Engagement, DDA, XO, SAI, and other key partners to ensure performance-driven principles are integrated across all marketing efforts, maximizing return and impact throughout the full customer journey. Establish and oversee mechanisms for consistently tracking, analyzing, and reporting on the impact of performance marketing initiatives, providing clear visibility and actionable insights to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders. Lead, coach, develop, and inspire the Performance Marketing team, cultivating a high-performing, collaborative, and analytically curious environment. Inspire internal teams and external partners (e.g., agencies) to strive for and achieve exceptional performance and innovation in line with performance marketing best practices. Foster a culture of innovation, data-driven decision-making, collaboration, continuous learning, and excellence within marketing. Contribute significantly to the overall Digital Marketing transformation and vision Contributes leadership skills, insights/knowledge and courage to embrace new analytically-driven approaches in order to help identify innovative priorities, plans and tactics that will help improve year-on-year brand adoption to maximize the number of patients who currently benefit from treatment. Lead the development and execution of enterprise-wide profitable growth strategies and strategic roadmaps for short and long term success, in alignment with Genentech's marketing goals. Builds highly-connected, highly-motivated and high-performing teams by leading, developing and inspiring a thriving Marketing Team and fostering belonging within and across teams. Leads or oversees hiring of direct and indirect reports. Complies with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.

Who you are: Minimum Candidate Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree -
10 years minimum work experience with 8 years of commercial experience (e.g. market access, marketing, sales or customer insights), 4 of which must be in a marketing role.
Preferred : Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications & Experience
MBA or other related graduate level degree preferred. Extensive (8+ years) experience in data-driven marketing and performance marketing, with a proven track record of developing and implementing impactful strategies that drove measurable business outcomes, including significant achievements within the Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry (e.g., Genentech) and valuable experience leading similar initiatives in other dynamic sectors such as Consumer Goods (CPG). Demonstrated ability to translate successful performance marketing models and GTM strategies across different contexts and driving enterprise-wide efficiencies, drawing from both deep pharma expertise and cross-industry best practices. Significant marketing experience in biotech or similar regulated industries, with a deep understanding of industry-specific challenges (e.g., HCP access, regulatory landscape), data constraints, and opportunities for pioneering performance-driven approaches. Proven expertise in leading data-driven marketing transformations at both brand and enterprise levels. This includes leveraging advanced data tools and methodologies (e.g., advanced marketing campaign measurement frameworks, marketing mix modeling, multi-touch attribution, incrementality testing, robust experimentation design) to enhance marketing effectiveness, drive performance optimization across diverse portfolios, and translate complex data into actionable, ROI-focused strategies. Superior leadership, coaching, and change management skills, with the ability to mentor, inspire, and lead high-performing marketing teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders towards achieving excellence in a data-driven, performance-focused environment. Advanced proficiency in utilizing and managing digital/data tools, analytics platforms, and marketing technologies for performance marketing purposes, with a history of successful implementation, oversight, and tangible value realization Experience in creating marketing strategies, plans and tactics that have strengthened market positioning and driven high-value customer and business outcomes, with clearly defined metrics for success. Strong data proficiency with deep understanding of data strategy, data governance, technology, and platforms relevant to performance marketing. Ability to drive a data-driven performance marketing practice, focus on metrics that matter (leading and lagging indicators), and drive business performance forward without unnecessary complexity and overanalysis. Expertise in aspects of Product Marketing to include positioning, branding, campaign development and channel mix, all viewed through a performance and optimization lens. Deep knowledge of the healthcare ecosystem including health economics, policy and the regulatory environment, and how these impact performance marketing strategies. Deep knowledge of each customer type e.g. HCPs, patients, payers, IDNs, distributors, pathways and how they run their business, and how to measure and influence their A B behavior shifts. Ability to think with an enterprise mindset and influence across a matrixed organization. Ability to demonstrate a breadth of diverse leadership experiences, develop and coach others. Ability to influence and inspire individuals and teams across the CMG network, from front-line employees to the executive level. Breadth of experience in digital marketing, media, digital marketing analytics, and the vendor landscape. Ability to flex and thrive in an ambiguous environment undergoing transformational change. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of CA is $222,500 - $413,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
