Brown and Caldwell continues to be a growing industry leader in project delivery for our clients. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to join our team as our Project Delivery Director. In this role, you will be responsible for driving consistent standards across all aspects of our project delivery model while leading a core team of practitioners towards our goal of a center of excellence. You will influence business performance through closer alignment between project teams and their business units. Establishing project delivery leadership, enable achievement of revenue and profit goals, advising and coaching project managers with regards to budgeting and change management negotiations, and assisting BUs with hiring/development of qualified Project Managers. Critical success indicators will be better equipped Project Managers, and proactive support to project teams resulting in overall improved project delivery performance. The resulting improved transparency and project reporting will better equip Enterprise, and Business Unit Managers (BUM), Business Unit PMO Leaders, Risk Management Leaders, and Project Managers to ensure the successful execution of projects across the company. You will report to the Project Services Enterprise Unit Leader.

Detailed Description:

Brown and Caldwell has an opportunity for an experienced individual to join our team as our Project Delivery Director. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and driving consistent standards across all aspects of our project delivery model. Through leadership by influence you will drive project delivery performance to established revenue and profit goals, through leadership of the Project Deliver team. Your responsibilities will encompass budgeting, change management, contract negotiations, risk management and strategic hiring for Project Managers to ensure bench strength. Critical success indicators will include a better equipped and proactive Project Manager culture within BC. Better integrated project delivery teams that have improved transparency and accountability. You will report to the Project Services Enterprise Unit Leader and work closely with Enterprise and Business Unit Operations Directors, Business Unit Project Delivery Directors, Area/Market Area Project Delivery Leaders, Risk Management Leaders, and Project Managers to ensure the successful execution of projects across the company.

*This role has the potential to work virtually and can be filled near any BC office.

Key Responsibilities



  • Serve as the accountable leader the company's Project Delivery Center of Excellence.
  • Provide structure and definition of the function of Project Management and the development of the Project Management Career Path.
  • Lead our PM community and facilitate the sharing of lessons learned and best practice.
  • Design, plan and assist in delivering (where applicable) both new and legacy training programs on a recurring (e.g., bi-monthly, annual etc.) and ad-hoc basis across BCs PM community which consists of many hundreds of Project Managers and support staff such as Project Analysts.
  • Lead, oversee, and execute project management and delivery standards, training and development, and project performance reviews. Provide direct support and mentoring to Project Managers.
  • Support BC's Risk Management program through high-risk project identification/tracking and partnering with project delivery risk experts (e.g., project controls and large programs).
  • Partner with Operations, Finance and Accounting, and Legal to drive profitable delivery of projects operations (e.g., review and respond to variance and overrun reports, identify potential projects at risk, etc.).
  • Provide leadership for BCs monthly oversight program in collaboration with Operations leaders including BCs Accountable Approver (AA) community and review trends and outcomes to best inform improvement areas.
  • Advance adherence to Project Delivery Requirements and use of Project Management Best Practices through BC's audit compliance program.
  • Play an active role in governance around the use of BCs internal Project Management Information System and related tools and processes.
  • Provide leadership for BCs Project Management Development Program ensuring that participants maximize growth and learning in a live-round active project environment.
  • Partner with Human Resources to conduct a skill set assessment of current Project Managers. Support Project Managers in establishing development plans.
  • Conduct regular comprehensive reviews of our PM capacity and ability to manage large projects, develop a recruitment plan in conjunction with the Enterprise and Business Unit Leaders.
  • Lead enhancements to BC's existing Project Management Development Program and PM onboarding. Maximize PM retention.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, lead, collaborate and progress strategic and tactical plans in alignment with company's goals and objectives.


Desired Skills and Experience:



  • B.S. degree in related engineering, construction management, program management and project management field is required.
  • Business leadership experience required is preferred.
  • Advanced degree/education in business administration preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years as Senior Project or Program Manager/Director in an integrated multi-discipline project delivery environment required
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred or the ability to achieve in one year.
  • Experience leading & managing projects and programs
  • Proven experience in leadership through influence.
  • Excellent leadership, people management, and organizational development skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate in a team-oriented and collaborative work environment, and promote, foster, and build a diverse and inclusive workforce
  • Ability to demonstrate business acumen to guide decisions on the assignment of personal and technical approaches to support business unit performance
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally (verbal and written) for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Travel required on as-needed basis


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A:

Salary: $157,000 - $214,000

Location B:

Salary: $172,000 - $236,000

Location C:

Salary: $188,000 - $257,000
