Primary Function: This position supports a variety of departments, with an emphasis on Admissions and Student Financials, to promote a culture of evidence by producing key dashboards and actionable insights to support strategic decision-making. The work of this role is roughly equally split between a broad focus on the overall data needs of the College and a deep resource for the offices of Admissions and Student Finance. The position will work with key ITS staff and various stakeholders to analyze data from multiple sources, interpret results, and develop data models, reports, and dashboards to enhance strategic decision-making and improve campus data literacy.

Responsibilities:

(1) Data Modeling and Design: Applies data modeling and design techniques based on organizational requirements. Develops, maintains, and explains data structures and associated components to support decision-making; (2) Data Engineering: Assists in the development and implementation of data pipelines and storage systems. Ensures the security, accessibility, and retrievability of data; (3) Data Visualization: Designs and prototypes data visualizations using appropriate tools and techniques. Refines visualizations through user feedback to support decision-making and storytelling; (4) Data Analytics: Gathers and prepares data from diverse sources to support advanced analytics. Applies statistical methods and tools to analyze data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights; (5) Business Intelligence (BI): Sources, prepares, and validates data for standard BI activities. Delivers reports aligned with stakeholder needs and organizational standards. Identifies opportunities for improved BI tools and processes; (6) Workday: Develops familiarity with Workday's Student Information System, related applications, and integrations to understand and enhance the interrelationships between those systems and the importance of data extracted from those systems to support enrollment management data needs;(7) Enrollment Services Data Support: Provides and vets data required to meet Admissions, Student Finance, and related Finance needs by using query management tools and research projects, working with IT staff, Enrollment Services staff, and the Bursar to develop queries and reports as needed; (8) Data to Drive Decisions: Provides research data an analysis relating to enrollment management initiatives and reports for divisional stakeholders; (9) Business Processes and Data: Assists enrollment management staff in the implementation of business process redesign solutions and new technology by providing training and documentation of solutions in coordination with ITS; (10) Problem Solving: Resolves problems and enhances various processes, projects, procedures, etc. by employing critical thinking skills and creativity. (11) Other duties as may be assigned.

Organizational Relationships: (1) Responsible to the Director of Data Systems; (2) Collaborate with Information Technology Services (ITS) staff and departmental stakeholders across the College; (3) Maintain a dotted line reporting relationship with the Associate VP of Enrollment & Marketing, and a close working relation with the Director of Admissions, the Finance Office, and the Bursar; (4) Collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Institutional Research.

Performance Standard:Performance will be considered satisfactory when: (1) the objectives agreed upon have been met within the specified time frame; (2) the responsibilities of the position have been performed in a competent and consistent manner; (3) effective relationships exist with other members of the college community, federal, state and community agencies.

Qualifications: (1) Education: Bachelor's degree in business intelligence, data science, computer science, business analytics, mathematics or related field from a Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) approved Institutional Accreditor institution. (2) Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: (a) Excellent analytical, interpersonal, customer service, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills are required; (b) Proficiency in tools such as PowerBI, ETL and with languages such as SQL, Python, R or other relevant languages. (c) The ability to understand, interpret, and analyze data and business process needs of integrated functions in a complex system along with the ability to effectively translate data and business process needs between end users and systems analysts and programmers; (d) Competency in the use of query tools and applications software; (e) Effective decision-making skills are required; (f) The ability to interpret and enforce University, state, and federal regulations is required; (g) The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required; (h)Willingness and ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies, business processes and procedures;(i)Ability to handle multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment; (3) Experience: (a) Three (3) or more years of experience in data analysis, modeling and visualization, and experience within a higher education setting preferred. (b) utilization of query management tools and application software in an enterprise environment; (c) demonstratable experience with software and tools used for data analytics and data visualization (e.g., SQL Advanced Excel, Power BI); (d) Experience with Workday Student is strongly preferred; (e) Experience with research, data analysis, and general functions related to enrollment management is preferred.
